A Good Starter Route for Me to Build

Unread postby ES44AH » Sat Sep 12, 2015 4:29 pm

Hi all,
I really want to get in to route building, and I've been doing research on the NS Rathole District from Danville, KY to Oakdale, TN in the early-mid 1990s. I don't have any kind of experience in the editor, would this be a hard route to build? If you think it is, any other NS suggestions from the same era that seem reasonable?

Michael
Thanks

Hi Michael,

For track laying, a more mountainous route like the Rathole would be more difficult than a level route across flat plains. The quality of your SRTM/DEM data will also affect how 'easy' it is to accurately place your grades.

I wouldn't get dissuaded from making the route you want based on this though. I would suggest first making a small 'test' route to hone your skills, and get comfortable with the editor.

Choose a smaller route - one that's only a few miles in length. Since you appear to like NS, a good place to start would be one of the smaller branches on the Pocahontas. :D
Cheers!

Thanks, Hack!
I will take up your idea. I am going to model the Briar MT (Glen Alum) Branch of the Pokey. I'll probably get started on it tomorrow once I gather enough research.

Michael
Thanks

Go for it and ask plenty of questions. The only stupid one is the one you don't ask.
