Questions about roads and traffic?

I was trying to set up some roads on my route just for eye candy so I installed roads alongside my tracks and had a great old time.
I used many different styles saved my route whent into driver and to my surprise I have no traffic anywhere
Started to look for tutorials on road installation and stumbled onto another persons thread and found out to my surprise that you needed to lay a traffic ribbon on the roads for traffic to work. This really was surprising to me because a couple of roads I installed had traffic running on them already.
I can't seem to find instructions for laying roads properly and wonder if anyone knows of a tutorial on facebook that I can look at?
I tried a search for Railworks 2013 road installation without any results. I can't find anything in the first manual I printed up when I got into Railworks.
