Is there a way to get rid of the haze?

Unread postby mikeg1250 » Sat Nov 06, 2010 7:32 pm

Hey guys,

First off let me say I'm new to both route building and Railworks so bare with me. I have started to construct my route and I'm finding it difficult to see long distances because it appears to be extremely hazy. Is there a way to fix this?

Hey welcome to the community!

First you should have a look at the Graphical Detail tab under Options in the game.
The haze might also come from the weather that is set for the scenario. So you can go to the scenario editor tab in the world editor (found on the upper left side).
The game should enter the scenario editor at the proper marker destination automatically. Click on the scenario marker and a window will open on the right side, there you can set your weather ("US Sunny" is best for creating), then click on the play button and then return to the world editor.
You should now have the chosen weather and see more. !*salute*!

I wonder if he is talking about the "draw in distance" that makes scenery look gray and foggy, if it's too far away. Mountains that are just shadows. I have noticed this from the beginning with this sim, I just attribute it to the fact that there is so much detail going on, would kill even a top end graphics card and CPU.

chris I think that's exactly what it was. With no track I didn't realize how far away I was.

maybe try looking at the info for the weather blueprints for starters >> http://www.railsimdownloads.com/wiki/ti ... e%20Manual <<

and in PDF >> http://www.railsimdownloads.com/wiki/ti ... ht=weather <<
and this >> http://www.railsimdownloads.com/wiki/ti ... e%20Manual <<
and this >> http://www.railsimdownloads.com/wiki/ti ... light=time <<

to give you an idea of how things work .

See stuff here >>>
_________

Fog Override
This is a true/false option which simply determines whether the default fogging is used, as set up in the time of day Blueprint, or whether the settings used are those set in this blueprint, overwriting these defaults.

Fog Colour
The fog colour can either be set by sliding the separate red, green and blue slider bars or by clicking the colour bar itself where a new window will appear.

Tip: You may want to tailor weather patterns to a scenario. A weather pattern with light colour fog may look great in daytime, but will make a scene look illuminated at night. For darker times of day a darker fog colour is recommended.

NOTE: The alpha section and slider currently has no effect.

Fog Start
This value is in metres and determines how close to the camera the fogging effect begins.

Fog End
This value is also in metres and determines the point at which all objects become fully fogged out. Setting this to a relatively small value, such as 150, will mean that any objects further than 150 metres from the camera will be hidden by the fog.

If you've no interest in producing your own blueprints and skys then searching the old RailSimulator forums at Train-Sim.com will yield some usefull info re: hacking the bin files for your needs *!!wink!!*

Have fun :D

Purely personal observation, but the appearance of the default "fog" seems to have worsened since RW2. It now looks like brilliant white paint on the far hills rather than a discreet haze.

Obviously we can do so much by tinkering with weather settings or setting up custom blueprints but ultimately I think this is something that needs to be tackled in the core as part of any upgrade to include distant mountains, perhaps.

In the meantime, my current route project is fairly flat thus avoiding the dazzling white off the background hills!

Actually, I think it's the opposite, I think it's gone from white to gray fog.
