Is your computer up to the task. Scroll down this link http://train-simulator.com/the-train-sim-world-beta/ for the updated computer spec requirements.

Maybe time to make a TSW sub thread if one has not been already made instead of hidden in the DTG thread.

Well my current GTX 850M laptop just squeaks by (based on it's 1.2Tflops of performance) for the "minimum" specs on TSW. The new GTX 1070 laptop I'm waiting on easily surpasses the "recommended" specs and also qualifies for all the "ideal" specs except the "Geforce GTX 1080 or equivalent" spec. I should be just fine.

Can't wait to hear the feedback from all you BETA users. I'll just wait to buy it at launch and enjoy your (hopefully) uploaded videos of it in the mean time while I wait. !!*ok*!!

I'll buy TSW, just not really play it until I upgrade from kraptop. For now, I'll remain in TS unless my computer will do average with TSW.

So we finally get the 64 bit application we have been waiting for
and they manage to soak up so much system utilization that we need what looks like about $1600 worth of machine to handle it.
That's One thousand, Six hundred dollars to you folks in Rio Linda.
I am trying to wrap my brain around the cost justification around buying such a machine to run my $49.00 Train Sim World.

I work with developers and this is what they do, they build their app, which requires 35,000 in hardware to run and another 20k in software and sits on a half million in infrastructure and then state if they had better hardware their app wouldn't be so slow.

Its never their software ....eveeeeeeerrrrrr.

Just because we play a smaller, not-so-much-of-a-big-deal game like TS does not mean we can get away with tiny PC or laptop. It's a game. And as much as some people resist the idea of it, that means we are gamers, just ones who play different games. Which means all of us could do with a gaming PC. If you wouldn't expect one of those newer AAA games to run on the computer you use, don't expect TSW to run on it: it is more demanding as a simulator than any of those FPSs would be. Or just turn down the settings, but as things go on, I advise everyone to try to get a gaming PC or forever hold your peace, as they say.

Actually $1,600 is the cheap end for hi end gaming PCs.More like $3,000 to $4,000 and up even if you build your own.

Gaming companies have quite often built a new platform slightly higher than current PC technology is optimized for, knowing that Moor's Law would catch up.

However, the PC market has hit a performance wall, and pushing the limits is no longer advised.

I must admit, I've got a good machine with a i53570k OC to 4.2GHz and a GTX 1070, but when I saw the trees blowing in the wind etc, I knew TSW was going to push the envelope. Especially since CPU advancements have hit a huge wall.

That being said, their recommended Ideal CPU is actually a two year old Haswell i7 design and my i5 3570k apparently benchmarks really close to that.
I'm thinking that TSW might like more threads and that's why the i7 Haswell is considered "ideal".
In it's OCed condition, my i5 3570k actually performs better than the stock i7 Haswell chip, so maybe I'll be fine and dandy.

To upgrade an existing ATX platform PC to something between the Recommended and Ideal setups, with a current and more powerful CPU, would only cost about $700 U.S. plus tax.
I don't know where people are getting this OMG $1600 garbage.

MSI mid range gaming MOBO $150 (applies to other brands as well)
RAM Corsair Vengeance DDR4 LP 2x4 8GB kit, $55
CPU Skylake i5 6600k, $239
Nvidia GTX 1060, $250 (this is more powerful than the "recommended" GPU)

CPU cooler and other items cross over from old board, unless it's really old.
In that case you might need to spend another $20 for a good Cooler Master air cooler, like an EVO 212.

I wonder what resolution and AA settings their recommendations are based on. !**conf**!
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

I don't think TSW is one of those Flight Sim deals where the game is designed for future hardware, but rather designed for the highest end of current hardware. Regardless, Flight Sim lived on even with the proposition that no computer of its time could run it on max, which would be considered insane if a game today suggested that. Keep in mind, too that DTG is putting Ideal specs up; of course a GTX1080 is ideal! You could say that for any game which is why ideal benchmarks typically aren't put on game info pages!

I'm sorry I could care less if the ** trees are waving in the wind or the cows are animated. Come on, I have spent a huge amount of my life driving around this country and rarely notice if the cows are wandering about or standing still. Moreover I only glance at the trees bushes and grass to see why my camper seems to be swerving around. Time will tell if any of this can be turned off so people with semi normal computers can run this thing.

It's not as if the current sim is all that optimized. It hasn't run all that smoothly on my quite decent computer (which I've upgraded several times over the years since first getting this sim). Not until my current GTX970 have I gotten mostly smooth graphics, and FPS still drags down in the high teens in places on most routes. That's really inexcusable for the level of graphics we're getting now.

I seriously doubt the new engine will be more demanding or perform worse, but we shall see in good time.
