Thanks all for now

It's very likely that NS will approve it, as they DTG has the license to stuff like NS 1074, the Lackawanna Heritage Unit. In terms of the bar car, good luck with adding a multitude of variants like the hi-door Comet I rebuilds!

We have another update from DTM on the Coaches. They are working on the Bombardier 1983/1987 rebuild versions.
What I am liking here is that that textures are getting more fine both literally and figuratively.

I have not seen fresh pictures of any reworks of the Pullman-Standard Coaches in the past 3 weeks. On the good side - I anticipated the public's desire for high door Coaches with the reworked cab throttle control and supplied that information. Not only that but an explanation as to why that is. So responses from the developer are correct and informed. However, I am starting to be concerned that I am not going to see EL NJOT on Steam. If you are on Facebook and are interested in the as-built U34CH and Pullman coaches I encourage you to (help a brother out) speak up and show your interest.

One more thing - note the trapdoors - these were added in the Bombardier 1983 version and the 1987 rebuild to accommodate high platforms which were being constructed as platforms were being updated at the time. The model reflect this and research, proper research with explanation gets that in the model. I remember seeing the conductor both drop the the trapdoors and lift them, afterwards, with a hook when the next station was a low platform. So - very cool.

These are the more strange and obscure DLC's that keep me interested in the game. I like the stuff you don't see everyday, like a giant U boat pulling commuter coaches lol.

If I was going to boil this whole thing down ... THIS !

Digging in deep to how this thing is supposed to function is part of the fun. Also Discovering New details and applying that to the model is also fun. Today's subject is the interior Cab Color and Texture.
Lets go to the pictures!
C34CH_086.jpg

C34CH_087.jpg

C34CH_088.jpg

The back story is this. I took issue with the interior cab color and texture that was being used. Then, I researched and studied my own photographs. I found a model done by another developer that used this "brownish-gray" and I found a similar color from a section of brushed on gray paint in the last U34CH. Then I got to thinking, I wonder WHAT they didnt paint with a brush - THE CEILING. Now after 50 years, I imagine the gray got a little dirty. But the color was even across the whole ceiling. Color is so subjective - this is a close as I am going to get with what we have to work with. i am really linking the improvement over the first cab shots. I think you will agree.

Last is the big problem recreating a working facsimile of HEP
C34CH_089.jpg

Getting the HEP is the #1 technical obstacle to over come. #2 is have 2 engines modes co-existing on the same model (Freight and Passenger) and #3 is having the switch control these 2 modes AND the "standby".
Its complex, I asked other developers about this as I was getting started with DTM - This is hard stuff. We will try to get this to work and dump the time into this and at least try. Becuase this is what makes the model unique! Shaft Driven - HEP.

Time for little update. Subject is Color Matching.

HobokenFacingWest19hs02.jpg

I had an interesting experience yesterday trying to get the correct blue into game working from photographs. The final picture is from this monring. But yesterday we spent 4 hours going back and forth with me sending color samples. What we had to do was set up a control. I figured out to get the color, I had Cesar face the units West in Hoboken, and I guesstimated the time of day, month in the photographs. Then I had to control for color shifts because of either the light or the way the film was developed. The red strip and logo in the photos was very helpful in me figuring out how much additional blue or red was in the source photo. What I was trying to find was the color as it was in the can when they painted it. I figured if had that color then the lighting in game could correspond to the photo.

I chose this photo because of angle. But you can see that the photo is like 1700 hours In summer-cloudy. Our model is at 1900 hours summer-cloudy. Clever eh?
I gotta say the shade of blue GE put on here was pretty sharp-looking.

We were just working on the blue and black - the silver and red is upcoming.

I call this "pretty darn close" *!greengrin!*

I am supposed to be working today and I am going back and forth with Cesar every hour. He just got cab car working in game. So this image is Exclusive to RWA and not seen anywhere before. THIS, my friends, is was superb research results in. Just look at all this State of the Art 1960s technology ... its a freaking GE control set. Just.like.its.supposed.to.be.

The painting and texturing needs tuning ... but this is just so exciting I had to put this up.

Looks superb, no other words. And she even has the correct tight lock passenger couplings.

Touche'
I just got the model a few minutes ago. I will be checking the color this evening. It just might be a pinch dark. Actually yesterday when I prepared the color sample i added 1% black thinking it was showing up to light in game.
In the photograph the Sun is hitting the entire length of the unit. Maybe the unit is turned to the North more. We had 5 paint versions before this one! This is the closest we got.

Wait a minute ... Buzz you do this all the time! Do you account for time of day, angle of sun when your trying to match colors like we just did?

Fantastic details! Don't forget to test it with the F40PH-2CAT and GP40PH-2B as well...speaking of that will the rebuilt control stand function any differently?
