FYI, just got a small download. According to the Steam Updates tab:

"Today (28/09/2015) Dovetail Games has released a hotfix for Train Simulator 2016.

The hotfix will download and install through Steam. You may need to restart Steam if the process does not automatically start for you. Once complete, the new version number for Train Simulator 2016 will be 53.8a.

Train Simulator 2016 53.8a changelog:

• Added Player Guide for owners of Train Simulator 2016
• Fixed unintentional differences between upgraded Store home page UI and Train Simulator 2016 Store home page UI.
• Fixed inability to publish content to Steam Workshop.
• Fixed loading screens from not displaying correct.
• Fixed instability with the In-Game Store.
The download size for Hotfix 53.8a is approximately 42Mb

Apparently this patch breaks the game for those who updated from TS2015 to TS2016 without buying the TS2016 new content. The game makes it to the start screen and that's it. You can hear train sound in the background but nothing else is working. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to shut down the game. Anybody else having this problem? A better question is...has anybody managed to fix the problem?

There is no fix at all.
A couple hundred of claims and complaints in Steam. Lots of hatred and disappointments. DTG hidden with no answers.
There are several reports of people that has bought the game and are also stuck.
And there have been problems with workshop items downloaded after the update.
The steam forum is like a sort of nightmare.

I can't make heads or tails out of what's going on at the Steam forums.

It did not break it.
My loading screen says 53.8 and I'm running fine.

Mine runs fine also.

I have the free TS2016 upgrade and it's working fine for me also but many on Steam are complaining that the hotfix has broken their menus.

It did break it for some people, believe me.

It's working fine here. For anyone having problems with any D/L not just this one it's usually a case of the D/L not being complete. Getting the whole package usually fixes the problem. Running in circles screaming that the sky is falling rarely fixes anything.

Usually it's that, but not this time. It's something DTG have to fix, and quickly.

Oh, Mike! Stop running in circles yelling about the sky! Don't you know that there's no legitimate way to actually point out a real problem!?

I haven't started since the update, so I'd better go check myself.

If this was a real problem at DTG why are only some having it?

There is a technical reason for it.

And it seems most of them are with the free download

I am being led to believe that it is being worked on whatever it is.
