Trev you didn't address the real question which is the 5 gigs vs 8 gigs.

Both were the real questions. !*YAAA*!

While it is recommended that one have 8GB of total ram to play the German route, how much of that ram is actually being used by TS20xx for the route? Chances are pretty good that it is less than 4GB. An optimized PC with similar specs to the XBox One has good chance of running the route with minimal stuttering at best with less than 8GB free ram.

EDIT: Not sure where the XBox One having 5GB ram comes from. Everything I have seen says it has 8GB.

He's talking about 5GB of memory free for the actual games. 3GB is for OS overhead. The Xbox One actually runs 3 operating systems at once...

http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/21/xbox ... g-systems/

Also....most games won't come close to using 5GB of RAM. And they could also rely on data streaming to load on the fly if they didn't have enough RAM. That's what the Grand Theft Auto series is known for.

As for the 8 core cpu only at 1.75GHz? Clock speed means less if the cores are more efficient. The Xbox has a laptop-level AMD APU that has two 4-core CPUs inside along with a GPU and 32 MB of buffer ESRAM. In most games, the GPU is far more important than the CPU. It's why on PCs that upgrading the GPU gives games a far bigger performance boost than upgrading the CPU.
AMD sucks anyways. Microsoft should be using Intel cores because of the cooling capabilities. Plus, they are just generally better. They are built for high-purpose usage.

Both Sony and Microsoft (Nintendo just for the GPU) went with AMD based on cost. Microsoft went with a Pentium III in the original Xbox and hasn't used Intel since. Remember that consoles for many of their initial years are sold at below cost. When you are losing money, the cost of the chips matters.

I was only going by the information present on Wikipedia, so, if that isn't completely correct, then I apologise. I've never actually owned a console in my entire life, so, I cannot possibly quote anything from personal knowledge, or, experience, and having had Windows XP as my OS from 2001 until last year, I've never had the capability to use anything more than 3.5 GB RAM anyway on any of the laptops and computers I've ever had for the last 14 years. Many of the European Railsimmers have state of the art equipment, even over 3 years ago they recommended that you had minimum 4GB RAM to run their 3rd party routes on from Spain, Italy, France and Germany, as standard, and even though I downloaded every one of them on offer I couldn't run them all with all the stuttering and freezing because my computer couldn't cope, now, I have a brand new PC with 16 GB RAM, and everything else is higher specs, I don't have any problems with 99.9% of ALL routes I've installed in the last 12 months. As to how much of the 8GB RAM is used in these routes, sorry, I've no idea, I'm not very computer savvy at all, which is why I knew you guys over here could answer my queries.
So, in essence then, some of these consoles have a higher spec, than some PC's, that's very interesting to learn, unsure if I'll obtain one in the future, but, it's fascinating to know how they compete with the PC market. Thank you all for your input.

OK it's Saturday night before the big update to 2016. This would be a great time on the weekend if you are concerned about 2016 doing something bad to your installation of TS to do a full body backup. The easy way if you have a traditional installation is just go into your Steam folder find railworks folder and copy it wherever you store stuff you want to keep. That way everything you have installed will be saved.

For those of you not to technical look in Steam (do a search if need be) \steamapps\common\railworks

Better safe than sorry.....backup......backup......backup. !!*ok*!!
!*cheers*!

But, thanks for the reminder Buzz..... *!!thnx!!*

It seems there are 4 more unidentified packages. One of them is the new backdated Riviera. The other three...............

It says there are training zones for different countries. Does this mean there will be a US Test Trak?

Possibly the NJT route and F40PH-2CAT? I wouldn't be surprised if they released those to include with the Steam Edition.

I was exactly thinking the same! The three other Steam Subs may be for the British route, German loco, and UP Gas Turbine.

The three assets beginning in 3 are new ones, probably those three you are suggesting.
The asset 277779 is an old one but slightly newer than Weardale and Teesdale.
