The SD70M horn did not have an issue when I used it pre-TS2016. I have read the proxyxml before; I will have to check when I load it. The ES44AC sounds seem unchanged based on what you guys have said. Does it now have the proper horn like the NS Coal GEVO?

I also want to know if additional quick drive consists and points were added on the route, for example, a PreLoad with the included double stack cars; ES44AC improved dynamic braking from the Marias Pass and newer GEVOs.

How'd it go for everyone? I haven't started up TS2016 since it downloaded.

Not so good on my laptop. My frame rates have dropped for some reason. Can this thing actually be eating more memory? Two locomotives on a piece of flat track on a route with no scenery should not be stuttering, especially when they didn't have problems yesterday. Will have to check the settings to see if the program reset something.

No problems to report on my desktop. Seems to be running as before

Well, alright, just to join the parade . . .

For me, on my Italian computer,TS2016 downloaded yesterday evening without any problems that I have yet noticed. The download began about 20:00 local time (UTC +1) and ended sometime during the night: not being a fussbudget, I just let the computer run and when I looked this morning the download was complete.

The opening screen now clearly shows the TS2016 billboard (these openers just keep getting uglier). The main menu screen looks just like TS2015, except that the buttons are a bit different. Workshop is now in the Drive menu, but also in the Profile menu. I also took a brief look at the Store tab, where every visible item bore the same price tag: £99.99: that ought to cause a few hoi paloi howls before it gets adjusted.

My Manuals/EN folder has gained "Workshop EULA 2016" and "EULA TS2016" PDFs, as well as fresh copies of the manuals for Sherman Hill, Norfolk Southern Coal District, and Koln Kobeltz.

So far, I've only looked at one scenario, "Working Wycon" on Sherman Hill. This takes place in rain+fog weather conditions; here's a screen shot:

Image

As of now, Steam won't let me buy the complete 2016 package even if I want to, which I'm not sure about yet; however, this message is posted on the RSC FaceBook page:
... we are aware of the issues some of you are currently facing when trying to purchase the game on Steam and are working with valve to get this resolved, thank you for your patience.
Before making up my mind, I want to examine what RSC has already given me, with emphasis on "given". I started with RS when they made the first version of this simulator available and over the years they have given me quite a number of new versions with new features and at times even new DLC, so I'm certainly in no mood to gripe because this time they're not giving me the complete package and I feel little or no sympathy with the poor-mouthers who share my purchase + gift experience.

Just one more comment, this one about download and initial start-up woes. I'm no computer expert, but I don't think that I need to be one to comprehend pretty quickly that getting the complete download in one fell swoop the first time depends a lot on one's type of internet service, on local weather conditions, and perhaps on one's type of computer as well, especially in view of the fact that RSC has always never claimed that any version of TS would run on a laptop.

Enough, already. !!howdy!!

There's a stange bumping noise in the idling sound of the GEVO

That bump sound is in the engine sound, I know, I recorded it. Those GE's have some really strange sounding idles.

Im waiting for the UE4 to come out before I dump more money into this sim. I'm ok with having ts2016(essentially 2015) for another year. Nothing was changed with the editor so that was the only way I was going to pull the trigger.

When you verify the cache, the program will usually if not always empty the external folders containing the mods.

I don't find this to be true. I have never had anything outside of any .ap ever changed. The only time I have ever anything outside of a .ap modified is when there was no .ap in that particular asset or content.

It did happen to me when I was doing the updates to the Connie and verified the game files - all the external folders alongside the .ap file got deleted. Luckily I could regenerate them easily by going back to the Asset Editor and re-exporting all the things I'd been modifying.

Quick report on the NS Coal District. ES44AC has a dandy horn and engine sounds and the speed is registering from the head end. I'm not certain of this yet but it looks like the tippy thing with the coal wagons might be fixed finally. More later.

I wouldn't bet on the update process not touching any of your custom folder or files. It all depends on the filing system commands given by the updater. If it orders to wipe a directory, subdirectories, files and all, your custom stuff is gone. The .ap asset packs make it easier for DTG/Steam to handle updates. Now the updater only has to update the .ap file.

I noticed on the fresh TS2016 install that there still are .pi package information files for those of my DLC that do not come in .ap asset packs, but rather individual files (like before). Do these play a role in updating? I keep that fresh install only for the Workshop and DLC acquisition.

I copied the relevant files over to my respective Europe, USA and UK installs, also the core files that were updated. Here those asset packs come in really handy, as my mods and hacks still supersede the files from the updated asset packs. That way I've found out that the new SH ES44AC didn't have the ditch light switch anymore that I have added to the TS2015 version. Some mods and hacks need to be re-applied or altered to get them working again with the updated engines from SH. My SH ES44 cab had clicking switches, handle clunks and air hisses that are gone now, so I must look into the audio events again.

Don't forget those of you who have tones of mods that you might be worried about this is still and dandy tool to keep your stuff from being lost. If anyone wants to talk about it please don't do it here. Take it back to the original topic or start and new one.

Here's an interesting wrinkle: "Career Scoring" can be turned off completely in TS2016. This means no more speeding scolds, no more time tortures, no more embarrassment over being the only one not to gain a million points. This alone makes the new version worth every penny I . . . wait, I haven't had to pay anything for it!

What I can't help but wonder, is how far has Buzz and others looked that think mods aren't undone.
They leave the folders with your mods there, but empty them to 0kb or even trim off the .bin on the end of the file path, leaving other stuff there... *!greengrin!*
It's all very cloak and dagger, not obvious at all.
In any case, Sherman Hill is the only one that seems to have some mods undone, but that's the only route that got any files changed at my end.

As far as the Gevo engine sounds, they skip idle. IE they don't fire on all cylinders at idle. It helps save fuel and pollution.
They rotate a dead cylinder/s in the firing order at idle.
Unfortunately it sounds like they have a dead cylinder, aka a dead miss.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

Also interested to know if the NS Coal District ES44AC and CoalPorters were updated with the newer advanced brakes and wagon sounds.
