TS2016 Backward Compatibility

Unread postby jgvaughan » Thu Aug 04, 2016 7:44 am

Hi all! I have been away from virtual railroading for a few years and when I re-loaded Steam on my computer I had TS2016 available for download. Now my question is this, I have about 60GB of equipment, routes, assets, etc. that go all the way back to the earliest Railworks versions, i.e. Railworks 2. Luckily I had segmented them out by version so my question is this: How far backward compatible is TS2016? Want to save myself time even trying to load them if the compatiblity isn't there.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Jim

I'm sure several people will jump in here with comments but let me just say that most everything will work from way back in TS2016 like routes and such however you will find that rolling stock made for RW2 and prior will look sort of 'washed out' due to the lighting changes made in RW3. I have not done a serious study on this so you may want to kind of experiment with a few things to see how it goes. In any event welcome to the forum.

Hi all,
I have a problem along the lines of backward compatibility.
There is a file on this site, CbnQ-Zephyr.rar by MadMike(Calvin), which for it to be used requires Kit09 from Britkits.

Unfortunately having purchased the Britkit09, I've found out this has been updated since it's first appearance and is Now RW3 compatible. I found on trying to comply with the installation instructions there was a conflict. This was with items required to be copied from the original Britkits files as detailed below, in a copy of letter I sent to Britkits:- Can you tell me if the Kit 09 i.e E7 extra pack will work with this DLC from RWAmerica, CbnQ-Zephyr.rar. Reason being the GeoPcDx for the E7A that are being asked to be copied are listed as " x-E7a..... and x-E7b...... Whereas in your directory, they are listed as being E7A-RW3..... and E7B-RW3... respectively.
Could you advise me if needed which lines of which .bin would require modifying.

The response from Dick was as follows:-
Hi John,
I am afraid you need to contact the person who did the repaint. The models with the RW3 suffix are updated and may not be compatible with the old graphics.
Dick Cowen

Has anyone resolved this and if so how?

Thanks! Slowly learning that from trial and error but that answers a lot.

I took a quick look at this and have it working using the RW3 geo. Send me a PM and I will send you the bin file I'm using. That's easier than poking around to see what I changed. If my foggy memory serves on this one it also came out real light with the new lighting starting with RW3 so I messed with the texture file also. I'll let you know when I'm home tonight.
