Trainz: A New Era

This forum is for anyone to write a review on a piece of DLC they purchased.

Run8 does not even have a forum of their own cause it is too much trouble for them.

Opens Rails has all it needs at TS.com.

Trainz has the Auran forum which is all that is needed.

Can't help it that they are full of negativity.

The FSX forum is here because I have several hundred planes painted and did not want them to go to waste, especially after FSX went Steam. Since we all here are on Steam, I just thought it would be nice for the people. And it is my site ;)

So that's a no then?

Is discussing the other train sims still allowed? Otherwise better state in the rules that this is a DTG Railworks board only so there can be no misunderstanding with the mods.

Why? Makes totally no sense at all. Did you not post about MSTS and Open Rails not being dead? Is it not still there? Is not this review of Trainz's TANE still here? How about going back to playing trains and let Buzz and I worry about the forum. And yes it is a no on a bunch of other train forums. You, however, are welcome to start your own forum about all train sims and advertise it here.

Here are the routes I know are good. There may be a dependency or 2 missing from some of them, but most are complete. Use the KUID search web site and you will find them.

A few of these also have a newer version but I have not updated them yet. Look for higher numbers of them. Other versions will be together.

Thanks, Bob for your extensive list.

I'd hate to spoil my fresh installs of T:ANE on my iMac with DLS I cannot get rid of.
I have a few JR locomotives, which can be updated to T:ANE standards, but these are CSX and N&W/NS.
So I suppose the Clinchfield would be a good candidate for starters.

I have the most powerful 2014 21" iMac, but its 1GB nVidia 750M is probably only average GPU power when it comes to playing T:ANE.
Will see soon if SP1 build 80413 improves game play.

Make a copy of your virgin install. Copy it somewhere else. Then choose that for your installation folder. Use it for a testing ground. I have 3 installs. One virgin, 1 for payware only and 1 for everything. Wish I could do that with Railworks. Just point to another folder and that's what you use. I also have 5 TB of HDD space.

I have that with Railworks Bob. No wonder you don't have the new NERW route out yet. You're spending too much time over on the dark side.

Yeah I been there some, but I also been flying and driving and conquering galaxies and killing Nazis. Just been relaxing and playing with a few of my 222 games on Steam. Jeez I cant believe I have that many... I hope I can play them all before I die.

It appears I should have read the minimum specs. I have everything needed, except the display adapter. Mine is a Geforce 220. Minumum is 460. I installed T:ANE but it hangs when I startup. I've made a couple of inquires on the Trainz forum, but it's not looking good right now. Guess it will sit on the shelf until I upgrade.

[later]

So as not to leave this hanging and confusing anyone else: the problem seems to be that my display adapter does not support DX11, which is a minimum requirement. My bad in not checking that before purchasing.

now ... how to convince the wife I MUST have a new graphics card ....

I installed the Glenwood B&O routes from Bob's list of routes above.
http://glenwoodshops.com/WM_and_BO_Mega_Route.shtml

Alas, no tracks are showing, yet the Content Manager does not report them missing and they are not listed as an external dependency by Glenwoodshops.

I believe T:ANE just chooses to not render things when memory is scarce. But my iMac has 8 GB RAM and 1 GB VRAM, which is within specs of T:ANE.

Well you picked the biggest route out there to test on. It is quite huge. I have all the external dependencies for ALL of the Glenwoodshop's routes. Check your PM.

Thanks, Bob. Downloaded and installed, and now the track shows. There are still some missing dependencies, but these are said to be DEM data, which the author used in laying the baseboards and could not remove afterwards.

Now I've got to re-fetch my Jointed Rail purchases and update them to T:ANE standards.

What's up with Jointed Rail? They had a nice collection of routes and assets, and now all of this seems to have gone.
A new T:ANE complaint fictional BN route is planned to be released in stages?

Oops, my bad. After logging in to get to the downloads, the older DLC showed again.

Mojave Sub now available at sale price! Re: Trainz: A New Era

Unread postby _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha » Sat Apr 23, 2016 4:30 am

Though it is no match for 3DTrain's Tehachapi Pass route currently in development for Railworks, the old TS12 Mojave Sub has been ported to T:ANE.

It is still one of the best western US routes and comes with nice JointedRail rolling stock.

I was able to get mine at 75% off because of some bonus offer. So those of you which have purchased T:ANE might have gotten that bonus offer in their mail as well.

The old Settle & Carlisle (S&C) route was recently re-released for TANE and is (or was) on sale to those who owned the earlier version(s) at a discount price.

The upgrade seems to have largely revolved around making the content and train sets work in TANE, together with the track being upgraded to a procedural type. Unfortunately little work seems to have been carried out on the aesthetics of the route itself, in particular terrain textures, which are the original from @2008 Trainz Classics 3 (and most of those are the older Auran built in textures from the early days). The upside is that the route runs very smoothly in TANE, very little of the judder or other issues that plague the ECML or Appalachian routes.

As regards TANE itself, several months and patches/hotfixes later it has settled down a bit and most of the silly bugs seem to have been squashed. It can now run on my laptop without causing it to almost catch fire. It's never going to look as good as TS20xx or offer the type of timetabled and structured activities the latter can support and of course TSW is going to blow it out the water. However Surveyor combined with Transdem is still a very powerful tool and with more TANE specific content arriving on N3V's DLS it becomes quite difficult to juggle route building time between the 2 sims (3 if we include old MSTS).
