RailWorks Translations

Starting with version v98.2c, RailWorks contains a localisation system making translating RailWorks and content for RailWorks quicker and easier.
However, there is no place to distribute language files. Now, here it is.

There are two elements to localisation within RailWorks.
The first is localising the core of the game, which includes the text presented in the front end, the tools and the user interface of the game.
The second is localising the content such as routes and scenarios.

Install notes:
Copy the .lan file to

<Path to Steam>\steamapps\common\railworks\Languages

Some basic Rules and Information:
  • If your translation is based on another one, you have to attribute the work of the author.
  • If you want to use numbers, be sure excel marks these cells as string.
    Otherwise xls2lan will not convert these cells.
    By writing ' as the first character you force excel to interpret the cell as string. Example: '2.
    Sidenote: You can use lan2xls to check which items are actually converted. If the exported xls file contains empty string, you know there is an error in your source xls file.
  • Always use the latest Copyright Notice. You can find the translation in RS_TXT_COPYRIGHT_NOTICE.
  • You can upload your translation in this forum. Simply attach the lan file to your post.
  • Please format your submitted post. (see below)

Format:
Code: Select all
[] = optional.
| = choose.

Name: de - German
Category: Core|Route|Scenario
[Route = xxx]
[Scenario = xxx]
[Progress = 50% (You can reserve a translation-project)]
Author: Christian Pichler - Nightc0re
[Based on: Official German.lan by RailWorks-Team]
File: de.lan (Download Link)
Version: 1.0
Changelog:

1.0
Fixed something.
Added something.
Comment:
Your additional information.

Information:
There is no need to PM me; as soon as you upload a new translation, I will receive an email and I will add your translation asap.

There is no official way to appreciate your work nor to distinctively identify the author, however I found a string id, which does a pretty good job.
RS_TXT_LAUNCHER_LANGUAGE.
This is the groupbox name for the language selection.
For example you can use:

"German v1.0 by Christian Pichler | RWDev"

If your translation is based on another one, you have to attribute the work of the author.

Have Fun!

Note to mods: this thread is old. The information may still be correct but the relevance of the thread to RWA users is questionable. Should be unpinned IMO.

Note to self: you are actively avoiding work today by browsing old threads. This is pathetic. Snap out of it and get back to work.

Looks like RSC isn't giving support for translation to rest of us anymore. Does anyone know why?

That doesn't ring a bell. Please provide a link to a communication by RSC about this.
