Shortliner's Review

Ok, after trying to get RW3 to work on my machine, which ended in me doing a clean re-install of Steam AND RW. I fiddled around with the settings a bit and put Game Booster 3 on my machine. Which gave me a 40% increase in performance. I wasn't able to completely get rid of the lagging (but at least no stuttering due to the next tile loading up, thank the gods for that), so I will have to get a new video card.

Now, onto the game itself. All I can way is.....WOW.......The first route I ran was Horseshoe Curve, and I did the tutorial. It was.....AMAZING! The first thing I notice was that the cab sway actually reacts to your control imputs. If you brake alittle, you get alittle movement. You brake alot, and your head might as well fall off! Honestly I was watching my head movement to gauge my braking rather than the F4 HUD! It really felt like I was driving the train by the seat of my pants! That's how good the cab sway is!

The lighting of the sim is just wonderful! When your train has it's back towards the sun, it'll show through the windows and brighten up your cab. If you go through a shaded area, your cab will get darker. It was just simply amazing! Even though I probably should've left the shadow off, the sim just felt incomplete without it, so I put it on low. Even on low the shadows are amazing. Speaking of lighting, the headlights are good, but I'm wondering if they're alittle too bright in the daytime. I have done railfanning tons of time and in the Daytime, I've never seen the headlights that bright. But maybe it's just me.

The Curve is a MUST buy route, the guys at RSC.com really did their homework on it, and it may just become my favorite default route!

I'll add a part two of my review tonight when I use block asset on my shortline route. :D
