Back up... 2nd reminder

Unread postby Derek » Wed Sep 21, 2011 6:31 am

Ok all your second reminder to back up your personal work.

For those of you who care about Class 166, 47 and SD40 reskins please back up these core folders, you may need the core files if Reskins fail to work correctly:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class166
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class47
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2

regards

I moved the first Reminder thread to the General Discussion forum. Here's a link to it for those interested.

So, do we just back up the entire RailWorks folder?

If you have the hard drive space to do it, that would be the easiest. Otherwise you have to sort through all the files you've added and/or modified and back them up.
Of course, eventually you'd have to do that anyway if you wanted to add them back into RW3.

I'm Copying and Pasting the RW folder onto my Desktop and renaming it for the time being.

You lose all of your modifications to the default stuff, yes.

So, what do we do with the backed-up data after the release? I have dozens of SD40 re-paints and they obviously reference numerous files in the Default and Def2 folders. Assuming these files will be changed with the RW3 release, we can't just restore the files from the back-up since that would wipe out the upgrade. Hopefully, the re-painters will go back and revise their products so they are compatible with the new SD40, but I think that is wishful thinking. Some of them are probably not even still in the game. We need some guidance about how to keep these old engines usable even though they won't have the upgrades included.
