With great sadness we just learned that Bob Artim passed away on October 17, 2024.
He was 68 and recently retired.
He hosted the NERW virtual railroad and was the main architect behind the NERW PA Division route and its numerous scenarios and repaints, all of which are still available today in our file library.
In 2012 Bob took over RailworksAmerica and made it what it is today.
He organized screenshot contests and charity drives.
Every Saturday, surrounded by his many cats, he would publish new repaints and scenarios in the file library.
He remained active until it became too much of a burden, at which point he transferred ownership of RWA to Buzz Baxter.

RIP Bob.

Really sad, also a bit of a shock to find it was October last year! So easy to lose track of people that we know but only meet through the internet.

Sad news and even sadder to pass on at 68. His contribution will be remembered as a legacy to this unique hobby and, hopefully, beyond «Railworksamerica». Hope your last voyage is by rail.

Wow. Very sad news. Rest in peace, Bob.

Wow - tough week. First it was two old favorites, Sly Stone and Brian Wilson. And now I just came across this notice about Bob.

There was a time a few years ago when Bob was pretty much financing this website on his own and he needed to upgrade the underlying software to accommodate the site's burgeoning popularity. Bob and I had several telephone conversations, the upshot of which was the Riverside, Waterton & Atlantic, or RW&A, a pro-bono route that Jim, Michael, Wayne and I made. I believe the route accomplished both of its goals: thanks to your donations, to raise money to fund the RWA website; and to be relatively easy for content creators to modify and make available to the community. The route is still one of my personal favorites, but it wouldn't have happened had it not been for the valuable input from Bob and his friends at NERW.

Bob may be gone now, but he won't be forgotten as we continue to pursue this wonderful hobby that he helped to build.

Very sad and shocked to hear this news. Bob was great and a real help to the train sim community. His contributions of and to this site are proof of that. Seems like just yesterday he was retiring and talking about moving to Florida. I never met him personally but felt his warmth and generosity in every interaction with him. Time flies, life is too short. God speed Bob!

Oh my goodness, my sympathies to those close to him. As others have said, it is a warning of how easy it is to lose track with “friends from afar” members. The North American TSC community owes a great deal to Mr Artim.

I'm sad to hear this.
When I was a regular here many years ago Bob was always very helpful (and patient) and will be missed.
I hope his gravestone is up to his very high standards.
