CV Champlain route still worth?

Unread postby Unoriginal » Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:07 am

This route is in the library, does anyone think it's still worth it?
I'm not asking this from a quality standpoint, I'm asking this because the route requires version 2 of the Springfield line, which has been long gone. It also needs portland terminal but the assets can be swapped with maine maritime since they're basically the same thing.

It's a lovely little route with lots of things to do. I don't recall about scenarios or if you would need to make some.

I'll be sure to try and check it out whenever I can, will probably have to do a lot of asset swapping before running it.
One main incentive for me was the D&H portion of the route (I'm just a sucker for anything delaware & hudson).

I think the assets from version 2 and the final iteration of the Springfield line should be mostly the same, the problem will be with the freight cars in some of the free roam scenarios.

Can confirm it's a pleasant little run through the Vermont countryside, and the granite quarry operation that Rick made is a fun switching setup.

Anything that was made with older (pre-Steam DLC) versions of Springfield Line should still work today. With the exception of scenarios, as the motive power and equipment got quite a few changes with the Steam release. But as far as scenery items go, I think we only added stuff with the New Haven extension and the Steam release and didn't delete any scenery items.

The same probably applies to scenery assets from Portland Terminal (which is now Maine Martime and available right here in the file library).

Michael

Perhaps we could add to the CV Champlain route the required Springfield 2 assets?

Are there any missing items from Assets\VNHRR in the Champlain route (with Springfield v3 / Steam version installed)? If there are, I'd be more than happy to try and find them and build a patch for them if possible* and if somebody could kindly provide me a list of them. Otherwise, I think having the latest version of the Springfield route installed should totally suffice.

*) That excludes anything related to the discontinued locomotives for which better substitutes exist anyway (my NH repaints here in the F/L of the DTM PRR FA and the DW NH RS3).

Is the Springfield V2 route still available somewhere?

No, and any files that might float around the internet are clearly pirated. Springfield v2 got pulled as soon as v3 went live, and there should be no reason for anybody to want it. V3 is double the length and with improvements to the v2 area and assets. Better replacements the two engines that had to be removed from v2 (ALCO FA and RS-3) are available from the file library here and Diesel Workshop.
