Cajon Pass Route

Unread postby TheKman » Sat Nov 25, 2023 8:43 pm

I'm curious What year was Cajon released?

I'm expanding the route towards Needles and Mojave.

I've gone back a decade in Google Earth. The tracks are OK, some new track added, other track removed. No issues with that. The problem is the roads. They are no where close to being accurate going thru Barstow. The roads are WAY OFF when compared to what Google Earth Shows. It's so bad I'll have to rip out all of the original roads and completely redo them. I have no idea what DTG was thinking when they designed route...... Again the track is in the right place, the road network is a nightmare.

The one by Tomcat is spot on!! I'm sorry DTG fanboys. The original route really bites! What the &^^%%$ was DTG thinking when they designed it?

I'll still have to do a few changes on Tomcats, but overall it's well done. His expanded route is what I was trying to do with the original route.

I will be looking forward to that. Tomcat's route is an excellent platform to build on.
Sources of the 3D assets are not obvious but can be found simply by asking a few questions around the forum, most all other assets are current.

What they were thinking back then was it's just a game and even any so called "prototype" was just to give you a idea of what the area was like. It was before the days of "REALISM" and "RIVET COUNTING". Ya know back when we just did this for fun? !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!

As mentioned above, the Cajon route is eleven years old and dates back to Railworks/Kuju content days, so even us "DTG fanboys" (to use your unflattering term) have long known the old route is simply way past its prime.

Back then I was glad to get something where the wheels turned and they stayed on the rails and I didn't give a hoot about the roads, trains run on rails not roads. Hurry up to now and I am still quietly glad that the wheels turn and they stay on the rails :D :D

No, I don't think the wheels go round in reality just so long as they appear to and even now those pesky automobiles getting in the way.........

Tip to TheKman : Tomcat's used track rules (RSUS) create easements that are too short.
Please change them to at least 80 ( up to 110):
>80</MaxSpeedTolerance>
before extending the route.
This will not change anything on the existent tracks.
Thanks
Kris

Thanks. I'm changing out the track to Scalerail. My easements are longer.

Thanks, just forgot that the tracks are these nice Scalerails. Otto Dad's version was Kuju - I enjoyed driving both of them.

Well duh, it was released 11 years ago... Pretty sure that route was created by kuju too, a bit before DTG/RSC existed.
