Train Sim Classic updating

Unread postby august1929 » Wed Nov 15, 2023 2:30 pm

Well this is a poser...I go to fire up the game tonight and it starts to update...total size of update 423.7GB!!!

Why?

Not done anything to the sim in the last 3 or 4 days when I have been using it. What is bad is that I don't have 423.7GB of drive available to store anything before it decides to install.

Any suggestions? Currently giving over 2 days to update...

Rod

Oh my, that's a lot of data. *!sad!*

Steam updated my TS this morning and it was only around 20 MB.

Some guesses: Have you tried shutting down and restarting the Steam client? Also, in case you've installed TS in a SteamLibrary on a removable HD, it might be worth checking that Steam can still find that library. I've seen it before where it somehow forgot about them, probably after the external disc was disconnected for a while. Also if running on an external disc, check that the drive letter is still the same as it was when you installed/last used the game. Windows sometimes changes the drive letters when one dis-/reconnects several external drives and now maybe Steam has started a completely new installation on the disc that has inherited the drive letter from the one with the TS installation.

Cheers,
Michael

So are we on 75.6a at this time? I've been on the beta and not sure if there was any update if I was there.

There is supposed to be another update from today 75.8a about 27-28MB.

Hi Michael, yes all in the correct place and as it has always been. I did close the client down...tbh in a bit of a panic...but made no difference.

Currently going through a validation which may mean that the initial message about installing (and it was that) 423.7GB might have been the client's initial supposition. Last time this happened, I had every single one of my DLC routes reinstalled for me (!). That was April this year. I still have the full Content/Routes that resulted (40GB) and I have swapped that back in so hopeully the validation should be reasonably satisfied.

Well there doesn't seem to be any urge on Steam's part to do a update at this time here.

If you are on the beta version, you will not get the update until you remove yourself from the beta.

Well it was an odd process - started by stating progress as 0MB of 423.7GB to be installed (that was the term used). Ran through an increasing time expectation (over 2 days at the point I stopped checking).

Next time I looked Steam was validating the files in the game, had reached 112GB of 423.7GB - looked back again later and it appeared to have started all over again, being back to having validated 47GB of 423.7GB (Steam had been left running on its own on the computer).

At this point it was still showing 5 hours to finish that process, so I went to bed. Clearly finished at some point overnight and had installed 623MB after unpacking..!

Version 75.8a...but...froze on synchronising with Workshop. Took between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes to resolve itself! (times are the points at which I checked what was happening.) I do not have any Workshop subscriptions.
