Non train related section

I'm not 100% sure if this already exists. But can I suggest something like a breakout style section for this forum?

It would be an ideal environment to engage in discussions like elections, health, anything really.

I haven't been able to find one in this forum. But from my observations on other websites, these get a lot of traffic. Just my 0.02c worth anyhow. And obviously make it available to members only.

I disagree...one of the reasons I like this site is due to its historical lack of politics, religion, world news, etc. that aren't related to railroading. There are plenty of forums out there for those types of discussion.

That is not our charter. In fact just the opposite we are dedicated to keeping this all about rail simulation and a little on flight simulation. There is a section for things related to real world railroad happenings and information however totally non railroad discussion is prohibited other than computer issues. There are plenty of other venues for real world issues both light and heavy. This like sports is supposed to be is a venue to get away from all the gunk that clutters our lives.

Over my dead body.

But thanks for the suggestion. I'm sure you mean well.

So I suspect that the answer is a straight out no. Interpreted with ease with no adversity whatsoever :). The forum will seemingly remain as it is.

Would it be appropriate to perform a software upgrade though? Another er....'forum' I use runs on the same platform, but with a newer interface.

The last upgrade I did busted a few addons, like uploading and a few other items. The addons have not been updated by their authors. So it is the way it is. Now my host is upgrading their services and I do not want it as it will most likely trash the whole site. Not to mention they want $399 for me to go with the new update. Centos 6 to Centos 7. Bad part of this is I will not get any help from them if I stay with 6. Such is life.

I just recently did a complete site shutdown for exactly that reason.....projected upgrade hassle and out of pocket cost.

They are updating to a new software version for their servers. It is called Centos. With their last update it crashed the uploading app here and messed up the search system along with the news page on the home page. Our version of Joomla is getting old and I don't want their new software to kill the site by accident. So we will be staying on the old server with out any help from them, but I still have to pay them $175 a month to use their servers.
