considering picking this up. Curious how it fairs by today's standards. Yeah i realize its aged, but if it's on par with say Donner or Marias thats a-ok with me.

Seen a few vids from this year, looks decent.
Wondering what you guys think that have it

Are you talking about the Tehachapi Pass from 3DTrains? It's a work in progress route and not complete. The Author Marc Nelson hasn't released any updates since September 27, 2019. He seems to have gone quiet. I'm not sure if it's health related or burnout from working on 2 routes for 2 different platforms. It is a good route but still very much a work in progress.

It’s a “must have” If you want to run Tomcat’s “Cajon-Mojave” or “Powder River Basin” routes.

You should take a look at Run8 then, a competent simulation having a large part of Southern California's BNSF and UP rail lines in a network that stretches from Seligman, AZ to Bakersfield/Fresno/San Bernardino/Los Angeles, CA.

----

After a short flash up mid last year, Tehachapi's development has come to a standstill again.

The core ATSF and SP assets Marc created are the reason for the necessity of this DLC in Tomcat's projects.

The remaining structures, scenery and decoration of the Tehachapi might perhaps never come?

The trackwork and signalling is complete, allowing operations. Compared to Run8, where you can run to either Barstow and Palmdale/West Colton down from Mojave, the indecisive ending of Marc's Tehachapi at Mojave robs the route from a purpose.

Perhaps later it will be extended and finished, otherwise you can try for yourself. Clone the route, put down some structures from the ATFS and SP DLC's available? Some signal bridges and cantilevers at least ...

Why would anyone go to the bother of a whole new simulator to get one route? Mark's route is perfectly nice as it is. I hope he returns to finish it sometime but it's still a very nice piece of work with a ton of custom assets that are nicely used on Tomcat's work.

I'm with Buzz on this one. I can't think of many route builders who are the equal of Marc Nelson, the only names that come to mind are Michael Stephan, Wayne Campbell, Rick Grout etc.

It is an unfinished route, but don't let that stop you from enjoying what is there - it's still one of my favorites. I too hope that it will be finished one day but I feel as if I've gotten more than my moneys worth at this point.

FYI, Not that this should be a deciding factor, but Powder River Basin is the only WIP from me that uses Tehachapi. Cajon-Mojave uses a lot of the freeware packs available from 3DTrains but not the Tehachapi route.

Thanks for the input fellas. Its on the list, for now i get my fix flying over it in MS Flight Sim

As far as scenarios (which im keen, not a qd/roam fan personally)... ive seen several packs on the site including stock as well. Swap engines out as i see fit i guess.

Run 8 seems beyond me atm. I like watching it though.

Wow With computers as fast and hard drives at petabytes. Why not have all the sims you want. I have just about every train sim they have out now and like them all. :D

Compared to the rubbish I've created (and posted screenshots of), I suspect Marc is one of those folks with an enormous IQ and excellent learning ability, who has mastered TS and certainly knows how to present his work in the most eye catching style possible. But it helps to be able to afford the most expensive graphics cards available as well.

I even recall his MSTS routes in their early days. His screenshots were breath taking.

It's his choice to seek other challenges in life if he wishes to. His work won't be forgotten. But if he wishes to leave them incomplete or unreleased, then that's how it is.

I know I sound like a hypocrite with that branch line I was working on. But it was mainly a scenery experiment with little operational potential.

And compared to the MSTS Sandpatch style routes that DTG release frequently, Tehachapi is almost off the scale.
