Does any one know why for certain TS locomotives they do a country check before you can buy.

I was just refused to buy the "GP9 Loco Add-On".

I will be in the US in a couple of weeks. Could I down load it there or does it check from what country your steam account was registered originaly ?

If I understand it checks where you are registered from so that won't help you. I assume that this was something from the BNSF family that you can't get? The reason for the country registration is so various govmits can get their greedy little paws on tax money. The way around this is pretty simple. Get a friend here in the States to buy it and gift it to you. "Nature finds a way." Ian Malcolm-Jurrasic Park.

Thanks for the suggestions and explanations. I had expected it has to do with copyrights of designs, trade marfked names, or used software.

Would have been easier they just pay their taxes. :D

------ some time later ------

I read up on the subject. Looks like sometime in 2015 a lawyer woke up and they stopped selling it outside the USA. This explains why I did have some of these installed three years ago.

BNSF Railway Media Center wrote:Unfortunately, our licensing agreement with Dovetail is for domestic U.
S. use only. In order to provide international use of our brand and
logo, BNSF would have to register our trademark in every country. That
would in turn mean we would have to devote extensive resources to a
team that would manage our image and branding worldwide. Additionally,
we would then have to collect royalties on any product that uses our
branding and logo, which we currently do not do. Thank you for your
support.

That BNSF statement is a crock. DTG are able to use other US logos on their trains.

Because they either got permission or bought a license or those other RRs don't care. The BNSF is not a crock from DTG but from BNSF.

It's the reason why the GP38s with the Racetrack are unbranded and the Clear creek rolling stock is "Colorado & Central".
