Disapearing Diamond Crossovers

Unread postby jcass010 » Wed Jan 23, 2019 2:28 pm

Hello everyone,

I don't know if this has been previously covered elsewhere but lately I've been experiencing issues with the diamond switches just outside of Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal on the Pacific Surfliner route. I know this is an older, and larger route and have noticed some quirks with this route in the past (invisible signal gantries, missing supports for automobile bridges, the occasional missing texture banner here or there, etc.), but this is the first time I recall where a glitch has literally made a portion of the route undrivable. Has anyone else experienced this particular issue and does anyone have an idea as to a possible fix?

Thanks,
Jaylene

First thing I would do is uninstall the route and then re-install it. Sometimes some of these files get corrupted and a reload will fix that.

That didn't work so I might just go in and rebuild the switches. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I assume you mean the series of double slips?

What sort of "issues" are you experiencing? Operation of the switches, derailing, pathing?

I have just spent 10 minutes driving an F59PHI back and forth over them in various directions and turns, and all operated perfectly.

Good luck if you try to rebuild them, that's a mighty complex set of switches all very close to each other :)

I'm not wishing to be discouraging, just realistic! That set of switches and double slips is about as complex as they come

The biggest single problem with such complex junctions is the overlapping of rails from adjacent switches, giving the appearance of badly formed and unwelded frogs, though actually it is double rails causing the problem (but functionality is not affected). I have experience with fixing that, if needed.

I got it working, somewhat, it wasn't letting me set paths and as soon as I would roll over it was derailing my trains. They work now but each point of the slip joint has to be set individually. I may eventually go back and attempt to restore full functionality to them but as long as I can set the path and my trains can roll over them without derailing I'm happy for now.

Thanks,

Jaylene

That's normal. A double slip is effectively a "compressed crossover", combining multiple turnouts.

On a regulr corssover you don't change one turnout and expect the other one of the pair to change with it.
