MS FS 2020 Review.

Unread postby trev123 » Mon Aug 17, 2020 5:21 pm

I have come across about 3 or 4 reviews of FS MS 2020 on Facebook and this is one of them. https://fselite.net/reviews/microsoft-f ... gxekN_DH_A Another one that I read the reviewer was using some sort of Intel i9 CPU and RTX 2080 TI graphics card and was getting about 60 FPS but when he got close to some buildings like New York it dropped down to 20 FPS he said that this was a bug and would be fixed.

So far, knock on wood, I've had no issues. 2020 runs very smooth so far but I only have 45 minutes of exploring around Seattle and NYC. There is a 3 or 4 second pause every 5 minutes or so as new satellite data streams in so I'll probably be turning that off for long flights. 2nd and 3rd shots are over my home town with current weather enabled and it matches fairly close to what I see outside. For what it's worth, watching ram usage on a second monitor I noticed a high of 12 gigs being used by 2020 at one point.

Looks very good. I shall wait a few days to get it from Steam as lots of people are having download issues it was so bad yesterday morning that you couldn't even get onto Steam. All you got was a message like this site is unavailable at the moment try again later.

It does look very good. Hopefully you'll have a painless install through Steam once the initial rush is over.

I didn't go the Steam route for this. Started the download direct from Microsoft just after midnight and it finished 96 gigs right around 2 a.m. I'm pretty happy with it after 3 hours of puttering around and it's a welcome change from my military aviation itch that I scratch with DCS.

Took off from San Francisco and had a very nice flight over to Yosemite in late afternoon light.

Correction:

The 3 or 4 second pause I mentioned seems to be caused by changing weather/time of day on the fly and not data streaming. I have 6 hours in so far with 5.18 gigs of streamed satellite data. On flights from NYC to Montreal and Chicago to North Platte Regional, where I did not change anything on the fly, I had no pauses at all.

If you haven't bought the game yet, heads up:

The spec recommendations suggest at least 16 GB of RAM, and they aren't kidding. I was running 1x8 GB of DDR4 and FS2020 frequently crashed due to running out of memory, even though I was on medium settings. RAM prices seem to be cheap at the moment, so if you were like me, take advantage of that and upgrade your system. I purchased 2x8 GB DDR4 for around $60 from MicroCenter, and the game is far more stable.

I have 16gb of DDR3 ram and just hope that my old Intel i5 2500K CPU can cope although I have an Asus 1060 6 GB card. Check your specs on this site to see if your computer can run it. I entered my specs and although the CPU got a red cross it said that This system has no obvious bottleneck for this game. https://www.game-debate.com/games/index ... quirements
