Oh boy MS Flight Simulator. Never played any of the original titles back in the day !!jabber!! it since I was always on MSTS, but it looked impressive for the time. I wonder if this "takes off" (badum-tsh!) if they'd consider a successor to MSTS? And I wonder if this changes anything with DTG's future flight simulators since their current flight simulator is originally Microsoft Flight Simulator X just on Steam?

Wait until you see what kind of system you need to run it. It needs a lot.

System requirements. If you're not sure if your PC can run this, or if you're just not sure you'd like it, Microsoft have said that the game will be available on Game Pass from day one. The first month of that is $1, so it's a good way to try out MSFS and any other games from the Microsoft Store that you maybe haven't been sure about.

This has nothing to do with Railworks or any associated stuff. Having said that many of us that are on something less than perfect internet will be unable to play this pretty much because of the D/L speed requirement. It certainly will require a robust gaming machine far beyond what most of us have to get anywhere near the 'ideal' machine they show.

Because they might reduce the number of people working on MS FS.

32GB of RAM?! Holy cow! Ideal settings are not suited to your average gamer - that's getting into professional gamer/streamer territory.

When we are at the Summer place we are on a wireless local network as Hughes is the only alternative and my down load speed is just under 4mps so that would be a no go for me.

My machine is the medium specs. But I have so much stuff I bought for FSX that I hardly fly now because I am a train nut, it isn't worth the upgrade. I was flying last week for the first time in a year. Lasted about an hour and I went back to my trainz.

There is an option to cache scenery. Recommended specs aren’t that outrageous, in my opinion.

It's not the recommended specs that are outrageous. Those specs are fine. Heck my new laptop can match the recommended specs. It's that third category - "Ideal" specs that's got me thrown for a loop. I have never seen a separate "Ideal" spec for any game before, just the minimum and recommended requirements. The fact that the game calls for 32Gb of RAM is what kills me. Most games require 16Gb of RAM to run well and don't have any measurable improvement above that setting. Gamers who own 24-32Gb gaming PCs are typically professionals who don't necessarily need the extra RAM for their games but because of the fact that they're screen casting, recording, live-streaming, or they have the game spread out over like 2-3 screens. Add into that the SSD (Solid State Drive), which is still relatively new technology which can boot and load faster than a standard Hard Drive and because the tech is so new and so powerful any system that comes pre-built with an SSD becomes that much more expensive. The NVIDIA RTX 2080 is also pretty much top of the line for graphics cards from NVIDIA, not something to sneeze at. Those types of PCs are like $4700 and up if you're going for a laptop, though a bit cheaper if you're going for a tabletop computer.

Personally my new laptop meets the "Ideal" requirements for both the VRAM and SSD size (I've got 8GB VRAM and 1TB SSD) and while I have an Intel i7 CPU I don't think it's 9800X. I have an NVIDIA RTX 2070 card and 16GB Ram, so the most I'd be able to do is the "Recommended" specs. And my laptop came on sale and with a $50 discount thanks to Honey and after tax cost me just over $1800.

But it does make me wonder: just how high-fidelity are these graphics if they really want you to have that much RAM seeing as these aren't just recommended requirements but "Ideal", as in what you really need to have get the most out of this game as the developers intended?

All of our rigs we got tuned perfectly over the years for TSXX are no longer relevant !*roll-laugh*!

Don't forget about all of the misery when TSW first came out, this is along the same type of thing with specs !*roll-laugh*!

Technology advances and the hole in our wallets grows bigger !*roll-laugh*!
