Got this today since I had a .plg file from orbixx forums that I had to convert to a .pln and load in FSX. Looks pretty good but I'll have to dig into the Manual to figure out all it can do. I see you can have it open along side FSX and use a plan that way? I still have a long ways to go getting back into flying.

I'm getting back into flight simming after a 10 year hiatus. Back then I used FX9 and FSNavigator. Now going to FSX, and I guess Plan-G.

This is a sincere question: does Plan-G do things better than the built-in flight-planner for FSX, other than a better map? FSNavigator was far superior to the FS9 filght planner and map, so I'm hoping Plan-G will be the same.

I got Plan-G to work with mapbox and it looks great. From reading the manual, however, I don't think it has all the functionality of the old FSNavigator.

It's much better than the built in planner. The ability to set waypoints anywhere is nice. It can reverse the plan. It has tons more info on airports, etc. Lots of people using as a moving map. You can search for any airport anywhere and the map will go right to it. Has nice features for printing out the legs, time to distance, compass directions, etc. Much more like a real flight plan than the in sim planner.

In the newer versions, you can't save a plan as a .pln readable by FSX/P3D. You have to choose the "Export" function instead of "save" and then you can choose the format and save as a .pln.

If you just want to plan a route, skyvector.com is nice. It has sectionals (or you can set it to world vfr and the whole world as a sectional is open for you). Right clicking on the airports gives you TONS of info. But you can't save a plan from this in a version readable by FSX/P3D, I don't think. It has the sectional elevation data that is very useful in planning flights in mountainous areas though.

Don't forget about AirNav. It has current RW information on airports and sectionals around the airports and all of the instrument approaches as well as a ton of other information..

Just put Airnav on my toolbar. And just did a first flight with a Plan-G flightplan. Great tool.
