I-Beam Flatcars

This may be a picky question, but the LV Flatcars when loaded, show just one load of I-Beams.
The IIR Route the forklift driver loads two rows of I-Beams.

Is it possible to change the flatcars to two rows of I-Beams, IIR to one row of I-Beams, or where could I get I-Beam flatcars that have two rows when loaded?

Thanks

Alex

Notice how the preloaded car (in front of the empty) has just one stack of I-Beams.

Look at the cheesy electric forklift that rookie is using. He's lucky he's not blowing a hydraulic line or worse. I commend the safety conscious man who loaded the first car. *!twisted!*

Hi,

The cargo transfer points (like that hyper powerful forklift) are quite limited in how they can be set up. The creator of the model can specifiy any number of objects as their cargo, but after that they are fixed and cannot be changed except globally for all placed copies of this object.

It's the same with cars carrying cargo objects: the repainter or modeler can specify any number of objects as loads, but once exported to the sim they'll remain like that.

However, there is some good news: the cargo object associated with the transfer point (fork lift) will get loaded onto any empty car, no matter which cargo objects this car had set on its own. So in the example at hand, the fork lift on the IIR should load the double-row pile of I-beams onto any empty gondola, flatcar or whatever car that has this type of loads defined in its setup. Some cargos may however visually fall through or float above the car, depending on where each object's vertical pivot point is.

Cheers
Michael

LOL Rich. I've been lying low Railworks for a while and forgot how funny and true your responses are. Blown hydraulic hoses make the biggest mess too, all that fluid spews everywhere.

Thanks, Michael. I thought that there may be a another set of flatcars from GoldenAge or Trains and Drivers that had two rows. I believe I can work around this.

I'd completely forgotten about this dandy little route, which is a switcher's dream. I'll have to download and install it again. Thanks, Michael!

Hmm, I may have done flatcars with the double layered I-beams... not sure.

Elsewhere in this forum there has just been a discussion about how to edit and position a cargo object on a rail vehicle. Well worth a look if you're interested in modifiying the cargo for some cars:

Actually, I was just using IIR to get back into practice creating scenarios. My preference is RW&A. Same general style.

I did find a rail car with double rows of I-Beams. It's called BH Flatcar 53'6" I-Beams found on the GreatNortherner -> Allegheny flyout. Why is the sunny side of this car so bright?

Thanks,

Alex

I don't know if that car was updated to RW3 or not. If not add a fairly dark alpha to the texture and it will get rid of that or see if there is a updated version. If you need help with modifying the texture just holler. I've done that on other older stuff.

I don't have the LV livery. I assume that's from the LV rolling stock payware. Anyway here are the ones I have and they are OK.

Yes, LV flat cars has only one row of I-Beams.

The Nickel Plate bulkheads have two rows and look great! Where did you get them from?

Hello,

Oh my, this is confusing -- and only I am to blame for it! !*hp*!

erdnay wrote:The Nickel Plate bulkheads have two rows and look great! Where did you get them from?

The NKP flats are not available anywhere any more.

The add-on that Buzz linked below (thank you!) includes yet another livery of the model which I threw in there to add some more variety.

The NKP car was part of the former "GSC Flatcars / East" add-on, which fell through the cracks when I overhauled all my add-ons some time ago.

However, the latest version (TS13) of the models is still on my server, so if you have an outdated version you can use your old download link to get the latest one installed (which will also get rid of the gloss/color washout error).

Please email me if you have any questions about that.

erdnay wrote:Why is the sunny side of this car so bright?

You must have a very old version of the car installed. That "ultra-gloss" is a side effect of me using non-default lighting values on the model's materials, which I did in RW1&2 to dull the candy-like appearence of models in the old graphics engine. With the TSX engine though this lead to the terrible shine and color washout, which is also visible on Buzz's screenshot (but to a smaller extend, probably because of the scenario's lighting).

Cheers
Michael

Thanks, Michael! Mystery solved, and there's even a link here.

I did not know that the PRR Bulkheads were payware. It must have sneaked its way into my asset folder but I can't explain where it came from other than "it just appeared".
