Another TS15 Update

Just received another update from DTG this morning around 338MB. Did a very quick check and initially haven't noticed anything cosmetic (menus etc) that changed. Still have various missing route/loco pictures. Gonna fire up the sim again and do some more looking.

!*don-know!*

Interesting. Will have to investigate further and see what was added.

I too seem to get almost dialy updates. They don't seem to push for replacing all asset folders with .ap packs though.

When the update seems completely delivered, a subsequent game verification finds thousands of files missing or changed.
A quick windows Explorer search by date shows it is often the same folders Steam is messing with.
It seems many more folders are touched and timestamped compared to actual files. All Buckeye\Type-E folders were touched today, but no new .bin files were delivered.

This has been going on ever since I updated my virgin install to TS2015. Makes me wonder if Steam really has its act together with such a large and complicated game like Railworks.

I'll wait till the install stabilises itself before making final conclusions.

Edit: My virgin install has all the Workshop subscriptions, these make for a lot of changes to the scenarios in the route folders. Wondering how a game verification treats my subscriptions. I thought the verification process uses those .manifest files to verify against?

I have not had an update in a week as far as I can tell. What did you get 'almost daily'? Or maybe it is because you have some DTG stuff I do not have?

No two installs are alike. Being from Europe, I am also interested in UK and continental railroads.
Over the years I've collected lots of stuff. That virgin railworks folder is now more than 95 metric gigabytes, or over 88 in power-of-two gigabytes. Apparantly I have 3339 workshop subscriptions taken out? No wonder it takes so long to synchronize. *!sad!*

After every update or verification I check the core files and system folders in the \Railworks directory to see wether core files were updated. Especially if a new GameManager.dll has been delivered, the actual core of the game.
Apart from some new menu files in Data\Scaleform dated Sept 22, all the other files still are dated Sept 19, the day I updated that virgin install.

Whatever they did, it undid all my mods and fixes. Audio, Couplers, Brakes. It did not fix one single thing that I know of. I still have the new headlight glitch in the SD75, and the dynamic brake glitch on the DDA40X when using the F4 HUD.
My Quick Drive is now crashing when I went to test some engines to see what happened.

I just went and checked my folder structure were I put my mods. The folders are there but the mods are gone!
They emptied the folders containing the mods... !*hp*!

My update is 779.4 MB. I have no idea what it's doing. That's a pretty big fix.

Ya gotta hand it to the DTG folks, they really have a hell of a sense of humor.

Yes...
They actually left the folder trees in the external folder structure I had created there, in place, but removed, not modified, the mods at the end of the folder tree... They didn't overwrite modded bins, they actually removed my modded ones with surgical precision from the external folders and left the folders leading up to the mod in place...

Well the version number is the same and the Stevens Pass asset glitch is still there (I didn't expect it to be fixed this quickly anyways). With my update that big, I expected to notice something. I guess it's purpose will be revealed in some way by somebody. !*don-know!*

I sure would be curious as to what the "fix" was supposed to be.
In the mean time, I was starting random scenarios and found every single thing back to default.
My copy of TS 2015 is undrivable, until a time arrives that I feel like copying over backups.
I personally am going back to 2014.

Check if new .ap files appeared at the root of your trees.

It actually looks like they got everything in my backup folders too. My asset folder backup was inside the railworks folder, and an overall backup of the railworks folder which was in the same steamapps folder as the regular railworks folder...this is a new low DTG!

I don't know why not I am not seeing any of this bizarre behavior.

My backups were in locations outside of Steam and they didn't get touched... as far as I can tell...

My Donner Pass rolling stock mods were snipped at the end.
My Dash 9 mods weren't in a external folder structure, because the Dash 9s aren't in the .ap file format yet. However, they found my mods and overwrote them.

Here's a snip showing the time it happened and what files they found and changed back.
