[SOLVED] After the Debrief ....

I too find the new "improved" menu system a royal pain in the *ss. What a waste of time, both programmer's and player's !

How to proceed after finishing a scenario? The Debrief screen only has a Main Menu button, which takes you back to the start screen.
And all the tedious route and train selection starts anew. !*don-know!*

There are postings at Steam's board and over at UKTS to replace TS2015 menu screens (the flash animations) with TS2014's, but that is obviously not working 100% either. There is no Debrief screen, and you are left with no option than to click the red x and start the game anew.
Selecting your route and train is so much easier with TS2014, I'll take that rather than the TS2015 menu crap.

Not impressed with TS2015 from the player viewpoint. Hopefully creators have a more positive experience.

Patience my friend. I will bet someone will figure it out in short order.

Just above the word Debrief are 4 tabs. Click the appropriate one and be returned to where you were.

After reading several threads on menu substitution, I decided to take the plunge.

I believe our main source of frustration is ScreenFrontEndDriveChoose.swf, which is new to TS2015. So if one can circumvent that screen, by NOT calling it anymore by means of replacing its parent ScreenFrontEndDrive.swf with the 2014 version, the route and scenario selection will be as it was in TS2014. That should be the minimum required.

Try replacing the two blue marked files with their TS2014 equivalents, and you should have the old scenario selection back.
DO NOT remove ScreenFrontEndDrive.swf, and you should get debriefed and can get back to the Main Menu or use the tabs explained by the previous poster.

No Academy obviously.

Yep, this seems like it works fine, too. I didn't notice it at first either. I personally dont have any issue with the new menu system - It seems alright. Just takes some time to figure out.

Like most new thing do eh? It is still a pain to scroll through 400 scenarios to find the one you want though. I think they should have the routes listed in there, then have them expand to the scenarios like the other part does.

I tried the menu switch over and it seems to be working fine. All the Academy scenarios are under Tutorials.

Its good to know that it works well, but I will change back to 2015 menus and try to get used to them.

I'm still getting a piece of the 2015 menu after closing a scenario. I can get out of it easily, but would prefer to have the full 2014 menu experience.

BTW, I tried to take a screenshot, but keep getting a picture of the desktop.

Thanks,

Rob :D

ALT + PrtScn should allow you to take a screenshot of the active window only.

Indeed you get the TS2015 ScreenFrontEndDriveChoose.swf after closing a scenario. With the tabs you can use the TS2015 method to continue browsing for another scenario. Using Main Menu takes you back to TS2014 ScreenFrontEndDrive.swf for an IMO easier selection.

The TS2015 Academy is opened from RS_2013_MenuSystemMaster.swf and ScreenFrontEndHome.swf. MenuSystemMaster seems like a background template to me. The TS2014 ScreenFrontEndHome.swf doesn't have an Academy button but all Academy scenarios are now in the main TS2014 list.

IrfanView and many other programs allow you to open .swf files, but not edit them.
Here you'll find evidence of DTG's humour, as condencensing as can be, taken from ScreenFrontEndTSA.swf:

2013 UI was the best
why to change something which is working? I have no idea
Users got habit to use one kind of UI, they break it with each "new" release

Just like Microsoft with the update to win8. They took a interface that we were long used to and made it different just for the sake of making it different. It certainly didn't make it easier in fact established the opposite.

For whatever reason, I can't do a screenshot via ALT + PrtScn.

So I did an actual shot of the screen the old fashioned way! *!lol!*

Is this what I should have?

You still have the 2014 background, probably something is wrong. I'd verify files if I where you.

I was going to post the same thing last night Buzz, but I was too tired. *!greengrin!*
Going from XP to 7 I found identical programs, but with different names, so it took weeks to remember all the new names for the identical programs.
This whole thing with the UI changing all the time is ridiculous. *!rolleyes!*

A person used to be able to double click on a route or scenario to load, but that's now gone too...

DTGs choice of Flash for makin menus is unfortunate, IMO, because it is not configurable by the user.
Barring that, thought should be given to accessibility. For vision impaired people, there is nothing worse than low-contrast small fonts. It would be great if DTG offered a few choices of menu configs (skins?). There should be a way to at least change the colors!

EDIT:
I could easily open the swf files with JPEXS free flash decompiler.
There are several free FLash editors out there.
