Route Selection

Unread postby jwtheiv » Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:12 pm

I've been playing with this and trying to figure out the logic in what is preventing all of the routes from properly being selectable in the Drive Menu.

Using the NERW as a test route, I can work around the issue, but still don't understand why it works.

Basically if I go and edit RouteProperties.xml and add a space as follows
<Localisation-cUserLocalisedString>
<English d:type="cDeltaString"> North Eastern - PA Div</English>

It behaves as expected, and the route appears properly in the Build menu and I can select and filter scenarios (this also works with Workshop routes).

It's weird however, as I've checked other routes that are displaying properly, and there is no additional spacing required in the string.

What do you mean not displaying properly? No icon?

Picture's probably the easiest way to do this. It's the problem that's driving everyone a bit batty in the sense you can't select the route properly (and instead have to scroll through a massive list).

From the build menu, I have a selection of routes - here's a screenshot showing where the NERW should be showing up if things were working properly.

Editing the routeproperty.xml file directly or simply renaming the route via the build menu and inserting a space, and we now have a nice selectable route (I'm using a graphic from the NERW site here for the route image.png file). Once the route is selected, I get a nice clean list of the associated scenarios as you'd expect.

OK that's what I thought you meant the Icon for the route. Wayne posted that the screenshot is required in the route information folder now and has to be a png. I have not tried that yet but plan on playing this weekend with some of the new features and fixes.

I wonder why I have a bunch of unowned engines (like a Class 66 Malcom Rail, Baldwin Centipede) listed.

I'm finding that when I choose Drive about half of the images are not showing up at first. But, if I click back and forth between the tabs (kind of doing a "refresh" maybe?) all the images do finally show up for all the tab's catagories. Well, except one or two images that never did show anyways.

This isn't exactly correct as some non-Steam routes do appear, but it's at least being worked on.

From the Steam Forums

@Mydnyte55 - We are aware of a problem where non-steam routes are not showing up when you select to filter by route in the drive screens. However if you don't filter and leave the full list of scenarios up, you can see all the routes and scenarios in the full list presented in the list box. While our engineers work on a better solution this at least will allow you to continue running those routes.

Regarding thumbnails, we are continuing to put the new thumbnail images in and you will see some more updates over the coming days to add them in. Apologies for the inconvenience caused by this.
