RS-1 Control Stand Gauges

Unread postby MontanaRails » Sat Sep 26, 2015 8:28 pm

I havent run the Lakeside Route for quite a while now, but I cant seem to get these gauges to work. Did TS2016 break something...or am I missing a step? I've followed the manual.

They are all working here. Just ran them through a shut down and restart.

Hi Buzz! Thanks for the help tracking this down. I know some engineers have been caught modifying their locomotives in various ways, but I haven't made any changes to the RS-1 at all...so this whole thing puzzled me.

I just interviewed the RWA shop foreman, and he admitted that as soon as the "RWA_Lakeside_Patch_30-09-14.zip" was applied, he started getting reports of these four gauges not working on the RS-1 fleet. Sure enough, removing this patch allows the gauges to function, and re-applying it breaks them again.

Easily fixed by applying the patch, and then copying a pre-patch backup of the RS-1 folder overtop of the patched files.

It looks like the patch did fix the incorrect marker lights, but the gauges are more important to me than the lights.

I'll PM Rick so he's aware.

I should have thought of that since I never bothered with that patch.

That patch is distant memory! *!embar*!

The behavior of the four gauges in question is scripted so of course I took a look at the script (a new version of which was included in the patch). As far as I can tell from a read of the script (not an in-game test), the patch simply added some code to control the marker light colors and strobe. That code is used only by variations of the engine equipped with those accessories. Code for the gauge behavior remains intact in the patched script, but evidently something isn't working properly.

For reasons that are my problem alone, it might take me a while to figure out what's going on. In the meantime, by all means revert to the original script if you like to watch those gauges. :D Just be aware that any RS-1 variations equipped with the marker lights and/or strobe won't take advantage of those particular features.

In the folder RailVehicles\Diesel\RS-1\RWA\Engine, back up your existing .out file then replace it with the attached, revised script. The Zip includes a new .out file as well as the text-format .lua file.

If the engine doesn't have a strobe, and most versions don't, the script in the 30-09-14 patch will stop short of the part that controls the specialty gauges. This new script tests for the existence of the strobe and continues on even if there isn't one. I saw no "unintended consequences" resulting from this script, but let me know if there are other problems.

So everything is OK now?
