New Horn Quills!

Unread postby ET44C4 » Mon Aug 21, 2017 7:05 am

After many hours of testing, fixing, and developing, RWA user lamanorbu and I (ET44C4) have finally created the ability to add quills to more locomotives! I have already created custom horns and custom quills to go along with them, so here are two videos of some progress.

There is quite a bit of work involved, but it is possible!

+1 !*drool*!

Thank you. I'm going to test out a few more locomotives to make sure everything works before I make a guide. !!*ok*!!

Howdy ET44C4,

Great sounding mod! I'm sure it took ALOT of effort to make. !*salute*!

Just wanted to let you know that horns that are operated via a button from most modern 'desk type' locomotives are not capable of being 'quilled'. This is because there is an electric circuit that connects the button to the horn verses a valve (like in the F40, or most early locomotives). You can make really short pushes of the button but there is a delay so doing things like 'shave and a haircut' is tricky, or at least I think so anyway. *!greengrin!*

Anyway, don't let me discourage you. I hope you release the mod, it would be fun to use anyway. I just mentioned that for your information. Please, I meant to harm.

Take care

P.S. I always thought it was funny RSC did the same thing with their F59, which also had a horn button. Ah well, still a great locomotive.

I'd like to see this on the older locomotives like the RS-1; really neat! !!*ok*!!

That's mostly true. Some of the desktops depend on how far you push the button. The P42 has two stages to the button.

Thank you very much for the information. It was greatly appreciated. !!*ok*!! My plan is to hopefully only make horns for early locomotives; the P42DC being the only exception. Hopefully I can find some good quill and horn audio to use, as it can be hard. *!greengrin!*

Thank you! I too, would love to have that. I might have to research what specific horn was used on RS-1 locomotives, and then get the audio for both horn and quill.

I just ran the P42DC with the quill mod and it apparently didn't work. I didn't make any changes to the P42DC at all since I did the quill. !*don-know!* I guess I will have to look around and see what happened.
