Modifying current locomotive sound xml file

Hey guys,

I am currently working on a sound project for a friend and I have a question. How would one modify a xml by adding in a new code in a existing xml to allow a new sound to be played. For a simple example lets say I wanted to add in a cab radio chatter to a loco that does not have one. Is there a way to add in the code to the CAB xml file that will allow it to be played? I'm a MSTS veteran and modifying the coding in there version called a SMS files as simple as a few clicks, add in a few changes, and done. But here it's like rocket science to me.

So if any sound vets hear who know their stuff and could give me a in depth insight on how this works then I would be extremely happy.

*!!thnx!!*

I think it's possible. Why not examine the xml file of a loco that already has radio chatter.

Hi Harry,

I have. I tried a while back to install HEP to my P42DC soundset last year but I was stumped. I tried almost everything in the books. I was told a while ago it is all in the Blueprint Editor but back then mine did not work because of my incompetence and a hour ago I figure out why. (And all it took was for me to delete one little file !DUH! ) But I fired up my Blueprint Editor and I was taking a look at it and it seems like it only allows me to create, not modify them.

That's correct. The .xml files in a developer's "source" file, created directly in the blueprint editor, contain some vital information that isn't in the .xml (or .bin) files in the asset (output) foiders, so you can't use the BE to edit the latter.

Do you have RWTools?

Oh ok I see. So there is no way of editing it without BE?

I've never used RWtools, but I'm sure Buzz can guide you on how to do things with it. I'd be interested to know if it lets you insert new entries in a blueprint, or only edit the existing ones.

Yes you can insert new entries. If it's a child item the only tricky part is getting the beginning and ending statement right.

Really? Ok I will start looking into it now unless you want to explain the process.

Go find a bin file that for instance has radio chatter. In the upper left corner under files then get to the engine bin file. Copy the appropriate lines from that bin. And then open and put it into the one where you want to change the sound. Tell it to save and it will also make a backup in case you mess things up.
