I have a technical question. It is probably not prototypical, but I just do not like the sounds in the GX_freight_xx.dav files even though those might be for wagons without roller bearings. Instead, I think Walter's sounds are fantastic and I very much prefer them, so I wanted to substitute wherever I ran into these GX sounds.

As a test case, I replaced the file "RWA/Lakeside/Audio/Freight/Wagon Sound.proxybin" with "RWA/Lakeside/Audio/RailVehicles/Wagons/WJ Sounds/Wagon Freight.proxybin" keeping the target name "Wagon Sound.proxbin" in the process. The first impression is the roll-by sounds of the wagons appear to be Walter's, but I haven't checked everything (air, brake, coupler, etc). Is this the right thing to do or am I just dreaming?

Looking at the path of the second one, if you wrote that all out, its wrong. Drop this into; RWA/Lakeside/Audio/Freight. It should work.

Believe it or not, this car was released by RSC without sounds aliased to it. Here is the fix for it. Someone please confirm that it works because I don't have the route. Thanks.

Edit. This is the second attachment, the first one was wrong. Please try again. The car sound is aliased to; Kuju\RailSimulatorUS. Make sure that is applied to the scenario.

This fix is OK, Krellnut. The H21a hoppers now have your wagon sounds. There is no need for the .xml file, though. The .bin is enough.

I know you don't need the xml, I simply didn't delete it before I posted it.

These are not made for the passenger cars so they are not affected. What routes are you having trouble with and what cars?

The locomotives should have nothing to do with wagon sounds. It's all about what wagons are in each one?

Same wagons? Is WJSounds ticked in both scenarios?

I think there has been an error made in the folder name with the replacement sound file.

There is only one freight car included with the Dash8Pack01, CoalGondola_G113.bin. Its audio child object points to Audio\RailVehicles\Wagon\Wagon Sound.xml, while Krellnut supplied a new folder named Wagons which contains his wagon sound.bin. Try renaming the folder Wagons to Wagon, overwriting the default file, and listen if that makes any difference. Plural vs singular, that's how precise DTG can be. *!!wink!!*

It didn't help in my US install, so I looked further and found that the proxyname referenced in the <SoundComponentBlueprint> is still the default. The SD80MACPack01 sound.bins all point to DTG\SD40-2LNFPack01, which Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons folder does indeed contain proxyxml files supplied by Krellnut. The samples used by those proxyxml and proxybin files are all taken from the DTG\SD40-2LNFPack01, I could find no reference to the WJ Sound folder. I am mighty confused now !**conf**! Which goes where?

There is so much that can go wrong in DTG's system of xml files and dependencies... Can somebody look into this as well? RW_Tools doesn't check an asset to this level of detail.

Which makes me ask: is there a tool to snoop on audio events? I can't always hear all those different sounds clearly and distinghuisably apart, esp. at low volumes. Plus most sound chips can only play a limited number of samples simultaneously, and the Railworks audio chain has many lesser samples played with a Likelyhood smaller than 1.

Don't forget to clear the .pak files to reload all dependencies anew. And because audio files aren't cached, it's best to quit and restart the game to make sure all audio is properly reloaded.

SOLUTION: change the path of the proxyname inside DTG\Dash8Pack01\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagon\Wagon Sound.bin to "WJ Sound\Wagons\Audio\Wagon Freight" and the Dash8 coal gondolas finally come to life aurally.

Here is my copy, ready to run hopefully.
