P42DC + Surfliner Equipment. Sound issues...

Unread postby DelayedInBlock » Fri Jan 23, 2015 3:25 pm

Hey all,

Recently, I've began a sound upgrade for the existing P42DCs currently offered as, well, they aren't exactly great. Anyways, I'm off to a good start but have noticed in my testing that when you switch to the cabcar, when you have the P42 in consist, the interior engine sounds play while you're in the cabcar, passenger view, or just about anywhere else in free roam view if within range of the train. This is almost a deal breaker for me as you don't want to exactly run the P42 if you can't run the cabcar without interior engine sounds. Obviously there are no issues when using an F59PHI, which was designed for the trainset. I've narrowed it down to some kind of issue in one of the .xml files but I wouldn't know which one or where to look. Anyone have any ideas? !*hp*!

There is actually a sound file in the library for this.

Well, unfortunately for me, I'm working with the Empire Builder version of the P42's so I doubt that sound fix would work with the ones I'm using. I don't own the Miami versions or the New Haven P32AC-DM's.

You might be able to learn something from that package if you explore and compare eh?

Umm, excuse me? The creator of this content said it was only for the Miami version and the P32AC-DMs. And it says that you MUST have them in order to use his content. I honestly, don't appreciate your reply, implying I don't care to read and learn something first. Maybe I already did and that's why I posted this thread, "eh"...

I haven't looked but maybe Bob is trying to tell you that they are the same and therefore they will work even though the directions don't say so.

I've downloaded and started working with these files. It appears I'm able to change a few things and make them work but it would seem that the engines sounds are still playing when I'm in the cabcar.

Which was precisely what Bob meant.
I hope it works for you!

I did not imply anything except that maybe you could get info from the uploaded files. Why do you people always try to read something into a post that is not there. Now that you did look at the files you had some progress which is why I mentioned it in the first place. I really get tired of this kind of stuff when I only try to help people. Whatever happened to being kind and courteous when you need help???

Yeah... Bob wasn't trying to be insulting or condescending. You read too much into his statement. He and others are only here to help you and point you in the right direction.

The same issue still occurs as far as the sounds still playing in the cabcar which would lead me to believe that the problem lies in another file like a simulation.out file or something. The xml files for the sounds really just say which sounds are played but not necessarily how they're mapped. Every other engine I've tried the engine sounds don't play inside the cabcar, except the P42.

This shouldn't be a problem caused by any .out file. Engine sounds are not usually handled by scripts.

You say the sounds are correct for the F59PHI but not for the P42DC, so the answer lies in the differences in the sound proxy blueprints for these two engines.

Possible différences:
- some sounds marked "OUTSIDE" in one loco but marked "BOTH" in the other;
- bad or missing sound occlusion blueprint;
- different attenuation parameters.

Also, from my experience, both the .proxyxml and the .proxybin versions of the blueprint should exist and be exactly the same. So if you make changes, make sure they are synchronized otherwise your changes may not be applied.

I also think I should be more specific with what I mean. When I say "engine sounds", I mean the actual interior engine sounds. So when you switch to the Surfliner cabcar, you still have the interior P42 sounds playing and they don't get quiet or anything. They're just as loud as they were when you're in the locomotive. Also, you can't "quill" or do a half blast with the cabcar when using the P42 which makes no sense because what locomotive you're using shouldn't matter with how sounds are played in a different drivable piece of equipment. I know you can't faintly hear engine sounds when you would be running from the cabcar but it shouldn't be playing the interior sounds from the P42 as if you didn't switch to another drivable piece of equipment.
