I have worked long time on different locomotives and multiple units soundsets to make them more realistic. If You know how Armstrong Powerhouse Pro payware soundsets have changed driving experience for UK trains then take this as the best comparision what I wanted to achive. F59PHI from Pacific Surfliner pack was one of the locomotives which was possible to improve because original soundset was pretty good. I had to edit some sounds and what was not possible to get from original pack was taken from some other payware trainpacks. Almost all sounds needed editing in sound editor. As much as You know RSC/DTG train/track sounds are usually pretty poor and unfinished. In case of F59 at least recordings are promising. However the way how this soundset has been put together is not satisfying. There's a lack of dynamic range. If locomotives engine sounds are too loud right horn volume can't be achived. The horn sound is the key point for all soundsets. And that's the reason why mr. Armstrong choosed absolutely different volume level for his soundsets. You have to turn Your amplifier on at least 1/3 or even more to get right base level. Base level choosen by Kuju do not allow wide enough dynamic range.
F59PHI-wagons-cabcar is the first US trainset I started to work on. The result is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBPvChS ... e=youtu.be
It's very short video but You can hear the overall balance especially when using headphones. In original soundset for F59 I found many faults and questionable entries in sound blueprints. I tried to fix what was possible to fix. No one KL5A horn sound available was good enough and even this one is not satisfying for me but it's at least balanced now compared to other sounds. One of the most important features here is the realistic distant fading volume curve.
But listen Yourself and decide what has been done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBPvChS ... e=youtu.be
I also improved train brake system functionality. Pacific Surfliner route track sounds and sound effects are totally reworked.
