I am having a issue with RW Tools.
I'm repainting a VRC GP40 and a GP40-2 for D&RGW (My first attempt at a repaint, no plans to upload it anywhere at the moment. PERSONAL USE ONLY!!)
Because some the of textures are "Scrambled", I read that I'll need RW Tools to view those textures.

When I open RW Tools and select "Open .TgPcDx Textures Files" and select any texture, I get the error #76 message.... (Screenshot of message enclosed)

According to Mike, this error occurs when the program is first run. I have never run RW Tools on my new computer!!
Mike says the registry entry is jacked. That I understand. He then goes on to say that it needs to be fixed and it will be necessary to use Regedit, and look for the entry.
Once in Regedit, I need to find something called "HKEY _CURRENT_USERand VBA Program Settings"

Well, I for the LIFE of me can't find it when I'm in Regedit........ I need to know where within the tree stricture of the files it is please.
I'm running Windows 10. The path to the sim for RW Tools is correct. I run it as administrator. The program was installed to the C drive direct. It's not in either the "Programs" or Program (x86) folders. It's all by itself on the C drive.

Hi,

I have not seen that error for years when trying to open a texture file. Where did you find the comment I made about needing to make a registry change as I don't think that is still applicable.

Error 76 means a file is missing, so I will need to check that.

Working here on Windows 10 today.

Mike, it's on your website. http://www.rstools.info/faq.html

I don't know how old the info is. I downloaded what was latest version on your website which is RW_Tools_Full7.zip and RW_Tools7032.zip.
I also downloaded all the zip files for the thumbnails. Perhaps something has been installed incorrectly..

I have RW Tools on my older computer which runs Windows 7. I didn't add the tumbnails on that computer. The program works just fine on my older computer so worst case I do the repaint on that computer. It just runs slower compared to my newer Cadillac!!!

Here's what I read, maybe I'm not understanding it...............

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions - Many of these refer to Route_Riter, but are also applicable to RW_Tools.

Error Messages after Installation or Upgrading I receive Error 76 when first try to run Route-Rites: After clicking OK on the Startup screen:
The possibility is that the Route_Riter 6 registry entry has become messed up, in which case it will be necessary to use Regedit, and look for the entry:
HKEY _CURRENT_USERand VBA Program Settings_Riter6, Right click on Route_Riter6 (and Route_Riter as well if it exists from a previous version) and select Delete from the menu. The program should then run OK (The registry entries are then re-written when you next exit RR)

Thanks for pointing that out, I was trying to find it in the Help File. I will delete that item from the FAQ file which was written years ago and is no longer applicable.

I have used the v7.0.32 today to edit texture files and it worked OK, so could you check that you have set up the correct path to the Options/Texture Editor Path in RW_Tools, if the program could not find your texture editor, it would give that error 76?

Yes, that was my hunch as well after reading some other items on the web..... Now I need to figure out the path and set it up correctly.
