Unpacking .ap file problem.

I've been running the unpacking process for 6 hours now and have no idea whether it is proceeding or if there is a snag. I have 86 files of which 46 are red. So far nothing in the report window has changed. My cursor shows that there is activity. Is there something wrong or must I just be patient? I'm running TS2015 and have version 6.0.24 of RailWorks.

No, there's no way this could take 6 hours.
ABort and try again, make sure you only select the .ap file you wantto extract.
Ifthis doesn't work, you can directly use 7zip.

I have tried several times using 7Zip and it doesn't work for me. Some of them are showing as being unpacked but they don't show up. I assume the files in red are the ones that are not unpacked.

I had problems trying to show which .ap files are unpacked and there is no real way to do it from the program. Those in red are shown if the size of the .ap file is about the same size as the whole folder. This can't be a certain indication though as some people only unpack a few files etc. Also Steam might download a new version of an .ap file, so you can't always be sure what is or is not up to date.

Using the stand-alone version of 7zip will unpack .ap files OK, as long as you know where you are saving them, but such files are Read Only and can't be used by RW_Tools unless you convert them to Read/Write.

If you wish to unpack files in RW_Tools, the most failsafe manner to do this is:-
1. Files/Find all .ap files
2. From the list, select all the files you wish to unpack with Ctrl-Left Click
3. Click the first button (on latest version) 'Unpack Selected .ap files with 7zip' - then click Ok, Ok on the next 2 windows which pop up and all the selected .ap files will be unpacked and rendered read/write. (The version of 7zip used to do this is NOT the same version as you normally download from the web).

And changing the attributes to Read/Write is easy using Windows Explorer or 7Zip - select the folder that you want to change, right click and choose Properties, clear the Read Only check box and OK out twice.

Of course, Mike's wonderful RW Tools will make all TS files Read/Write for you as well from the Options menu, although it may take a bit longer, and if you unpack from within RW Tools it does it automatically.

I was puzzled when trying to install some sound and physics mods because the instructions would say to go to a certain directory, but when I would try and follow the instructions I would run into a dead end with just an xxx.ap file in the last directory I could find. Finally figured out that maybe these other directories were inside the xxx.ap file. Got RW tools to uncompress the xxx.ap file, and like magic, there were all the other directories in the instructions. I bet alot of newbies to TS2015, like I am, run into the same problem, and just give up.

Hi Bob,

That is why the Read-Me file included with all RW_Tools patches says 'A file describing use with .ap files is at http://www.rstools.info/RW_Tools_and_APfiles.pdf'

All the half dozen or more physics and sound patches I have installed so far from this site, have not mentioned that anywhere in the readme instructions. BTW, that link doesn't work.

Do you suppose you could PM the uploaders so they could fix the problem in the instructions instead of complaining about it here?
