Copy/Paste Function not functioning

Hello,

I recently upgraded to a nice quad core i7 machine (windows 8.1) and I am having issues with RW Tools on pretty much any file when it comes to copy/paste - as it seems this no longer works. It appears (through windows explorer "properties" window) that none of the read only flags are set on these files, so I'm not sure what's wrong. I've tried right click, copy/paste, as well as keyboard commands. I've updated to the latest version of RW_Tools, and have run the "Make all RW files read/write" option as well. I suspect that one of the recent windows updates did something....

EDIT: If I try to copy/paste, nothing happens. If I try to cut anything, I get this error: "Run-time Error '438': Object doesn't support this property or method" which then causes RW_Tools to crash.

EDIT 2: Finally narrowed it down! Right Click, copy/paste does NOT work. But keyboard commands do work after a global permissions change to not be read only.

Ideas?

Hi,

I have just tested here on Windows 8.1 machine and all of the options in the main editor screen on right click, such as copy, paste, cut etc all work fine.

If you previously were using Windows XP, please ensure that

1. You installed RW_Tools by running the installer as administrator

2. Once installed, you right clicked on the RW_Tools.exe file and selected Properties/Compatability and selected 'Always run this program as administrator'

All of the files in Railworks should be read/write automatically, there should be nothing to change there unless you have unpacked .ap files using the full version of 7zip or other unzip program. The option to unpack in RW_Tools using 7zip uses a different version of 7zip and does make all files read/write

Mike

Hello Mike,

Yikes...perhaps that means something isnt quite right with my brand new machine (MSI GT70 894 Gaming Laptop). The only issue I've had thus far with the computer was a hiccup installing Flash - it gave errors but seemed to install fine despite it. No other apparent issues other than that and this copy/paste thing (and the usual Railworks stuff).

I actually moved over from a Windows 7 machine. When it came time to install RW_Tools, I did a install as an administrator for the base program, and then copied my program folder over from my old machine, overwriting everything. I've tried running as an administrator, and running in various compatibility modes. Using Right click menu, the following happens. Right click, "cut" works. If I then try to paste, nothing happens (or I get the above Run-Time Error). If I have anything highlighted and try to paste to replace it with the cut item, it just deletes whatever's there. If I try to right click, copy, paste, nothing happens. However, if I use Control C or Control V as Glenn pointed out, it works totally fine.

I've tried copy paste (both menu and keyboard command) in various other programs, including Notepad++, Photoshop CS4, Lightroom, MS Word 2007, Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10, etc. and they all seem to work fine, both methods.

I'm confused. !*don-know!*

I've noticed a problem with copy/paste too.
Usually this:
- If I open a .bin file in RW-Tools, copy some text, close RW-Tools, open a different .bin file, and try to paste: doesn't work. Nothing is pasted.
- If I open a .bin file in RW-Tools, copy some text, keep RW-Tools open, paste in Notepad: works fine.

It seems like the buffer is emptied when RW-Tools shuts down.

I have been doing some tests with this, but can't pin down where the problems occur as they are not always the same.

Sometimes I can do a copy with CTRL-C, close RW_Tools down, restart it and open another file and CTRL-V works fine. Other times I get an error that the clipboard is locked so the paste fails.

Seems no coherent reasons for the intermittent problems with this.
