Donner Pass

Unread postby miata54 » Thu Jan 02, 2014 9:38 pm

Hello Mike:

I purchased Donner Pass through Steam last year. The route appears in RW2014 and runs just fine, but RW Tools does not see or list it under the "Routes/Scenario's" header. I just did a verify cache and it is still missing in RWT. Any ideas why?

Thanks

I have a feeling you have to "un ap" the route to get RWT to check it. The routes now come zipped in a custom file type "ap" which the program can read and use, but RW Tools can not scan through. I think there is a menu option to unpack the files. (I just used 7zip to unpack mine - bloats the steamapps folder because there is now a compressed and uncompressed version of most files, but it allows the easy use of assets between routes (ie; Bumbleberry Logging and its use of the trees from Donner, which it cant do if the route is packed)

Hope this helps...

Yes, in RW-Tools click on Files / Find all .ap files then use the buttons.

Thanks Guys. I did what you suggested and when I went back to the "Content" folder after unpacking Donner Pass, no where under "Routes", using the file "Route Properties" to identify which route it was, was Donner Pass listed by name. Two files appeared named "Scenarios" and "Main Content.ap". The Route GUID was 00000032-0000-0000-0000-000000000000. So even though RWT says the files were "unpacked" (I selected the second option " unpack .ap files to the same folder as the .ap first time unpack"), I can't find where DP and all the unpacked files are located.

Of interest, DP also does not appear in Package Manager and this is after a second Verify Cache! YET, it does appear, when I run RW2014, select "Drive" and then "Standard". All the standard scenarios are listed for selection. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that when opening 00000032-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 in the "Routes" folder, there are 27 listed guid's for scenarios and 18 of those folders are empty. Only 9 have other files. Also, in the RW2014 menu where the scenarios are listed, the header title says "Donner Pass Southern Pacific". Is the "Southern Pacific" part correct for the main title for the route?

Thanks

There are 2 ap files for Donner Pass:
- railworks\Content\Routes\00000032-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\MainContent.ap, which contains the route and scenarios; and
- railworks\Assets\RSC\DonnerPass\DonnerPassAssets.ap, which contains the assets that came with the route.

Unpacking one does not unpack the other.
In RW-Tools, if you choose to unpack assets from the first one, it will do nothing, of course, because the assets are in the second one.
If you unpack both in RW-Tools using "Unpack selected ap files" you will see all the assets and the scenarios.

None of this will appear in Package Manager because these were not distributed as packages. They did not add a .pi file into railworks\PackageInfo.
They are managed through Steam, not Package Manager.

Chacal:

Thanks for the detailed info on the "workings" of file management in RW2014. I think both RSC & Steam missed the KISS principle. *!rolleyes!*
