CNW #216 Flambeau 400 Departing Waterton

Unread postby GogebicChief » Wed Jan 25, 2023 6:49 am

Good Day: It is Thanksgiving Weekend 1956. The weather is clear but brisk, and it's 7:45 AM. Because of the extra passengers over this Holiday the normal Flambeau 400 consist has been expanded to 3 Chair Coaches - 1 Parlor - 1 Ex "City" Diner ( Made available by the fact the Milwaukee Rd took over the "City Trains".), and 1 Heavyweight Express Baggage. The extra F Unit will make easier when the get to Green Bay, and It's turned over to Mike's boys in the "Valley Division". *!!wink!!*

I was off work trying to fight-off a bad infection, so I did some painting. The F Unit is the F3 PhIII that comes with Santa Fe pack from High Iron. Also I took the Coaches & Parlor a step further, and added the "Speed 400" logo to the sides. If look off to the side of the 1st shot, You will see the switcher waiting for the "Northwoods Fisherman", so it can be serviced for the trip back down at night. I thought I would put some life in this part of the forum. Besides I feel like home on this Route. !!*ok*!!

Agree on both points

I was going to make a joke about being really old but still not old enough to have ever seen a CNW loco that clean, the people who invented grungy rolling stock but decided that these look too nice to make fun of.

Buzz: I know exactly what You mean. The Bi-Levels, and these cars after the 1959 upgrade, (When the black stripes, the lower fluting & the silver lettering were removed.) looked like they never knew what soap and water was for. You have to chuckle when You see old photos of crews cleaning the trains, at the old Milwaukee Lakefront depot... !*roll-laugh*! !*cheers*!

Thanks for the nice comments from everybody. These shots mean a lot to me. My Dad was battling Prostate Cancer, and he had to travel from Ironwood to Milwaukee every 6 weeks or so, for treatments. I was 8 -9 years old, and the wonderful kind Conductors of both the CNW & CMStp&O, used to let me stand in last Vestibule, and Blow the hand whistle, while the Flambeau 400, or Ashland Limited, was backing into Ironwood from Hurley, whenever I was with My Dad. What a thrill, and great memory. :D
