RS-1 Repaints

Unread postby ricksan » Mon Jan 13, 2014 9:17 pm

The subject of repaints comes up from time to time. Here's how it will work.

The RW&A will feature an RS-1 in custom maroon and dark-gray livery. That paint scheme has already been applied to the model although I consider it WIP.

We may also release the RS-1 as a standalone product. Same deal as the route: all proceeds go to offsetting the costs of this web site.

Either way, we will upload a repaint kit to the File Library. The kit will include the relevant texture sheets in Photoshop PSD format. Each sheet will have a single, flattened color layer, a shadow-map layer, and two template layers. One of the templates will show the edge outlines of each triangle or polygon group, and the other will define each group of polygons by function. In the latter case you might see groups labeled with things like "horn" or "coupler pocket." Despite the chaotic appearance of the texture sheets, I have made an effort to group families of polygons together, rather than allow them to be scattered at random as so often happens.

No advance releases. The RS-1 and repaint kit will not be available until the route is released.

Rick,
The fact that you're making and releasing a paint kit is like the greatest thing I've heard in awhile. **!!bow!!**
Kudos to you! !!*ok*!! If more modelers did this, they would be surprised how many more of their products would get used. Freeware or payware.
I use paint kits extensively in my FSX world and it just makes life that much easier. !*salute*!

@mdurdan and other prospective repainters: In the interest of optimum workflow, the Project Manager (me) decided to get the basic paint job done and out of the way. The project has moved well beyond that now and into other areas. Don't worry, everyone who wants to will have the opportunity to create as many repaints as they come up with as soon as the locomotive is released. I'm hoping the proposed repaint kit will make it easier -- or at least not as difficult -- and yield better results.

Hi Rick....and to all here!

I'm new here...in fact, my very first post. (smile) However, as XDriver said....I'm tickled to hear there will be a paint-kit.

I'm not a great painter....but have done my share of FSX aircraft paints in the past.

I haven't begun to read all the posts at this forum.....but so far I'm very pleased with everyone's input I've read so far.

This looks like a great site and I'm very pleased to have found RWA!!!

Marc and Josh....Thank You both so much......trust me....I will be asking questions soon.....I need to read some posts first....many questions are probably already answered somewhere. (smile)

I've started "dabbling" with some scenerio editing and find it very relaxing. Made a bunch of mistakes, but that's all part of learning.....right? (smile)

Many Thanks again for the very warm welcome. From what I've already seen and read.....looks like this is the place for me.

Cheers,

I also want to see a few different repaints.

By the way, here's a better picture of the Amtrak RS-1.

Also, a few must-haves for the route.

This looks like it was an ann arbor rs1(bottom pic), they start it every year just to make sure it runs. And here are some ideas, would love to see one repainted !*salute*! Image Image

The pack? The RS-1 in any package we make available will only have the RW&A livery. All other liveries -- and by the way the ones pictured here are all great looking -- will need to be provided by others as freeware repaints.
