Heavyweight Observation Car

Unread postby EngineerTJ » Wed Dec 23, 2020 4:25 pm

I was hoping someone could model an observation car similar in design to the image below. Britkits stuff is very outdated and needs to be redone or replaced at some point.
The railroad of the observation car doesn't necessarily matter to me. I just hope its not msts level of texturing.

I'm working on this slowly as a lot of it is kind of trail and error.

Is that Britkits? Sorry for my wording of what i was saying. I was meaning this as a model request rather than a repaint request since Britkits stuff has MSTS textures.

Here is the modern version of the back lights. I'll reach out to the G-Trax guys and see if I can use that for a more period version.

No, I am pretty sure that is still MSTS quality textures right there. You can't really upgrade textures on what is essentially an MSTS conversions into looking good enough to even match DTG's quality. The fault is on the model itself rather than the person attempting to upgrade the model. I would rather wait for a new model rather than try to bring back the dead. Especially when that means paying for stuff that isn't worth it. No offense to Britkits, he did his best and served the community well.

That is actually where you are wrong. Again, it depends on the modelling quality itself, but textures can be made into 4K very easily. By simply doing this, the model becomes 10x better. You'd be surprised by how simple an improvement can change a model's overall quality.

This is about all the damage I'm going to do on this one. 4096x4096 and completely redid the paint job. Added the modern rear lights using the models from Dan Vystrcil (PapaExpress). I am going to try to do the period lamps when I get the time time.

I decided after looking at these pictures for a while that I really didn't care for the way the rivets looked. They were too far apart and too large soooooooooooo I redid them. I like this look a lot better.
