I am attempting to make a UP repaint of the Bethgon Coalporter II that comes with the PennCoal, NS Dash 8, and CSX SD80 DLCs. Unfortunately, the way they are mapped does not allow me to color only the upper portions on one side. I have attached a picture of what I am trying to make. It is basically a remake of the old Kuju UP Coal Hopper using the newer model from RSC. I don't have the experience to make child objects in order to repaint this. If anyone has any suggestions how how to repaint this car, let me know.

Might have something up my sleeve. Which DLC do you prefer the coal hopper be a repaint of?

The top texture is the Kuju model and the bottom texture is from the DTG C40-8. They look exactly the same to me, which means you could try and take all the Kuju textures and just make a repaint replacing the DTG textures with the Kuju ones.

The textures can be the same but the mapping to them could be different from each model.

I am looking to use the Norfolk Southern Coal District hopper, as I figure more people will be likely to have this DLC. The issue that I am having, is that I looked at the Kuju default coal hopper, the yellow UP one, and the yellow patches show on both ends of the car. I want to create a series of real life hoppers that only have the color patches on one end. Just like this in the picture.

Sorry buzz, it is the DTG Dash8Pack01.

I would assume the coal car included with that add-on would be the same as the version included with the RSC Penn Coal route. I did some weathered NS repaints for the PennCoal version awhile back, but like John said, the mapping could be different compared to the Kuju model.

The mapping is the same for all of the versions, Kuju, RSC, and DTG. The newer versions though have a slightly better detail of the rivets and panels. Plus the wheels are fully animated.

Alright, I decided to test this out. Here we have the default Kuju car in the top picture. The second picture displays the Penn Coal model with the Kuju textures. The third picture is a comparison of the two.

I replaced the main texture and the number textures. I had to edit the decal texture as well, but that is beside the point. One can easily replace the textures, but here's what we need to find out. Can one make a repaint as described above: "I want to create a series of real life hoppers that only have the color patches on one end."

You can't from what limited testing I did because they mirror imaged the ends so whatever shows up on the side if the end panel shows up on the opposite end on the other side.

How are we going to know what end has the rotary coupler? We don't want this to happen!
