Monon F7 Freight Scheme

Unread postby TheTeenageFoamer » Mon Jan 25, 2016 1:50 pm

Hi-o, I'm suggesting a monon freight scheme F7 to go with Buzz great passenger scheme locos. The colors are the colors of purdue university, and the red, white, grey, ETC scheme that Buzz did was the colors for depauw university.
Sorry for the not so great pics, it's hard to find pics of locomotives that dont exist anymore.
And It is the same on both sides.

I was going to do this however I never could find a gold color for TS. If you could find how to do this I would be happy to do it.

Oh yes this is true, metallic colors are hard to do. I will look around and see if I can find some color that looks golden.

Remember how Sibell made the 911, maybe PM her and ask for the side texture with the gold ribbon on it. I don't know what paint program you use but I'm sure there is a tool to copy the color of pixals.

I do something in GIMP that improves the metallic look somewhat.

I create a new layer on top of the other layers and go to Filters/Render/Clouds/SolidNoise and adjust the detail to the finest possible (15 in both boxes). Sometimes I flip through a few of the preset patterns before selecting one and creating the cloud layer.

At first, it blocks the entire image and looks rather nasty. Since it's on a separate layer, I change the layer to an Overlay (this is a great feature for weathering) and adjust the opacity to taste. It can create a variable dirty effect, especially when used with other layers of weathering. It can also help silver and gold colors sparkle a bit.

I suppose you could actually only have the cloudy effect on the silver or gold with the proper editing.

Here are a few screenshots that somewhat illustrate the end result. The second shot is of an MSTS model but it illustrates a more intense effect:

I know this is kind of hard to visualize however do you think this is worth pursuing?

That looks just fine !!*ok*!! If you don't think it's worth it then that's fine, but I think that color is almost perfect.
