For those with the time and skills for this task, the '1105' unit from the undecorated pack would be the best basis for this. !!det!!

I have just purchased this pack, but found that none of them really matches DRGW GP40 and GP40-2 units.

Therefor a plea to VRC to bring us proper DRGW units with the right headlight and plow configuration to go with this nice route.

Sorry fellars, but i'm going to have to keep my cat out of this dog fight, for three good reasons.

1 and 2...

and 3.

The shop is quite busy right now!

However, don't be quick to discount using either the L&N, 1105 undec, or even one of the other locomotives as repaint fodder. Looking through the internet at various DRGW photos of GP40's, just like every other railroad, no two are the same. The picture at the beginning of this thread is a Phase 2, but I saw plenty of Phase 1's.

DRGW 3130 is atypical, built March 1983, almost a GP50: "D&RGW 3129 and 3130 were purchased to replace wrecked GP30 3025 and GP40 3058, both wrecked in August 1982; built as late production GP40-2s and fitted with corrugated radiator grilles, straight side frame rails, and sloped traction motor blower ducts." (from the excellent page http://utahrails.net/drgw/rg-diesels-2.php)
It doesn't say the Blomberg B trucks from some wrecked loco were re-used, as they don't appear to be proper Blomberg M trucks that most Dash-2 rode on. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blomberg_B)

That first photo was when the loco was brand new. This is a more DRGW-appropriate look:

For a proper DRGW look the loco needs high and low headlights and a snowplow. This configuration is not available. Is there a plow as child object, since I noticed the Undecs come with different pilot.bin files?

Ok, do over...

So am I reading this right? Instead of taking something that is close to what you want, you would rather have nothing at all?

Apparently the Prosac is in short supply and some folk got mad at that statement, so let me clarify. Just because the VRC model is not exact, don't let it stop you from attempting the repaint. I myself have been wondering why the Undec pack has been out for six months and I have not seen a single repaint from it. Somebody please give us a DRGW!

I'll sweeten the pot. If someone does decide to repaint the 1105 or the L&N equivalent, i'll child in a snowplow. Good luck.

Oooo, the first photo is of a GP40 Phase 3. Not many were made, the reason we did not make them.

Let's get back on topic.

I will add the bubblegum light (my own not the VRC model) for the roof and recompile the LUA to make it work properly.

It's rare to see a DRGW GP40 without the Gyralite in the nose:

Image

It looks like there were 22 ex-Conrail, former Penn Central GP40s added to the roster in '84 and '85. Might be a fair compromise of what's available vs what the community wants.

More details about the roster here:
