Grand Trunk Western GP38-2

Unread postby gtw5812 » Sat Jan 14, 2023 7:35 pm

This is in reference to an earlier post that Buzz Baxter had up. It is about the unit that he posted, painting it Rock Island. Well, the Non-Dynamic GP38-2 would be perfect for a GTW 5800 series unit. I have included a few photos, and a TRAINZ model for color. These would be perfect in any CN lash-up, or like me, "just reliving memories" running Grand Trunk Lash-up's. I do not know which builder makes the non dynamic version, since I do not believe that I have it. Thanks for the consideration!

I have considered doing a Detroit,Toledo and Ironton repaint. But I can't get past those ditch lights being wrong for the 1970's.

The Clinchfield model doesn't have ditch lights but you'll have to live with the dynamic brake blister on a midwestern engine that never saw any substantial hill in its lifetime.

Thanks for the suggestion. The CF model does sorta work for 2 units on the DT&I roster.

It actually looks like TRS (TrueRails) has one modified for the Peninsular Corridor Route on their Freeware section....

Let me take a look at that. I think they allow re-paints as long as we give them credit for use. Do you have a link to that particular one?

That's where I looked. I was just wondering what Galen was talking about referring to the Peninsular Corridor.

It's one of the requirements as they have used the GP38-2 from there to adapt.

So to try and help clarify my earlier post,I was certain Buzz used this modification from Trurail to create his Rock repaint. I had spent time trying to locate the non-dynamic 38 as a finished unit. This tells me the UP/MP files mods CREATE the non-dynamic model. I originally thought it was just the paint, and the listed modifications. Does someone who has this running care to show the finished file hierarchy? Thanks,Joe

So I have both the UP and Mo Pac versions running now. I did not notice from the angle of the screenshots that the engines still have the dynamic fans. Just the housing is removed. I am really starting to believe the only way to get a non dynamic plain Jane GP 38/38-2 into this sim,is to build one.

The TruRails version has the front fan capped.. Ricks one on the HiLine has the front fan gone however it has the headlight on the nose since it was made from the BNSF version.

Sorry Buzz,

I didn't see this. I was away for a while..."Honey Do's"! I referred to the Peninsular Corridor, since I read it in their file.

Just wanted everyone to know I haven't forgotten this. This is a major PITA to repaint but I'll not be deterred. !*roll-laugh*!
