Since we've been working on a new cab shell, these aren't out of the question after we pump out the backlogged 40-2s.

Were it not, DTG has no proper SD40 modeled yet? Their CRR SD40 is a fake, without traction motor silhouettes even.

A decent model from JointedRail weathering is very well done too.

Seems JointedRail modeled the correct brake cylinders, the black units have them low, the red units high on the truck's sideframes.

Were the railroads able to relocate the brake cylinders on existing trucks, or did the trucks have to be swapped for new ones?

They did frequently switch from low to high, I don't think it mandated a replacement truck necessarily to make it happen. Low mount BCs had a tendency to freeze up for railroads that got decent snow pack.

The SP did this frequently on their SD45's. It wasn't unusual to see the one truck with low cylinders, and the other truck with high cylinders.

Low mounted brake cylinders also got damaged easily in derailments, when 'deferred maintenance' started to become a cost cutting measure? Rerailing shoes on every locomotive ...
