Well you need to stop posting off topic in this thread is one thing. This is the FEF-3 thread not the learning how to model steam thread. People see new posts in here and expect to see something MRennie. We also have the feature of a PM, Personal Message that you can use to talk to individuals privately.

I suggest you start a new thread (probably in the freeware forum) where you can start asking specific questions on clearly defined areas. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time to spend on a step-by-step tutorial on how to build a steam loco from scratch (as I said, I started one, but it was taking far too long). However, if you have specific questions for which there's a short answer (not something that would take pages and pages to explain), then we'll do what we can, time allowing, to answer whenever we drop in to check out the latest posts. It would also be a good idea if you explain exactly what experience you have, what 3D modelling software you use, whether you've done any of the tutorials, what you've understood and/or tried out from the dev docs, etc., just so we have a btter idea of how to pitch the answers.

hey smokebox,

Did you know that the FEF-1 and the FEF-2 or FEF-3 had different driver sizes.

FEF-2 cowcatcher/pilot

FEF-1 76 in. drivers and 12 wheel tender

Thanks for building the UP 4-8-4s,

Yes, the FEF-1 had 77 inch drivers. There are a lot of differences between the -1, -2 and -3. Someone once suggested I make the FEF-1 and FEF-2 after doing the -3, but it would be a lot of work, not just a bit of tweaking here and there, because of all those differences.

Here's a look at what there is in the cab so far (there's obviously still a lot more work to do):

Looking amazing. **!!bow!!**

Are we going to be able to position anywhere along the rear of the footplate or is it going to be strictly right side/ left side as with the older locos? *!question!* Sometimes it is easier to see what is happening if standing in the middle looking at the back head rather than to the side...

!*cheers*!

At the moment, I've got four camera positions, one for each seat, with the two rear ones given a wider field of view that takes in the entire backhead. I could add another right in the middle, between the doors.

That looks really good. I've been getting used to manually firing steam engines so I'll probably be spending a lot of time in this cab.

Just to go off on a tangent slightly, this is a real thing that exists:
Image
an "Analog Rivet Counting Tool" for model trains. I saw this in the most recent Model Railroader and I was surprised the fact that there was even a demand for such a tool.

I really need to count the rivets on the outside sometime. I'm pretty sure there are over a thousand *!lol!*

There are going to be plenty of nuts and bolts in the cab - just wait until I start on the metal sheet that covers the backhead *!!wink!!*

By the way, I hope you took a good look at the readings on all the gauges. None of them are faked.
