I really wish & hope DTG makes a CN route, they've got the ability, they've released CN locomotives in the past and still have CN locos for sale. If there was one route of CN's I'd like it would be the Newcastle Sub from Halifax to Moncton or Truro depending on how far they want to go. It's got amazing east coast scenery, valleys, rivers, lakes, rocks, you name it, plenty of switching options in Halifax and throughout the route plus some trains stop at Gypsum mines and add more cars there. Plus I think since the Newcastle sub is the eastern terminus of the only coast-coast Transcontinental railway it would be a good advertising standpoint for DTG.
It seems that this is probably the only other major class 1, apart from KCS, that isnt represented in the game itself. They could easily kill two birds with one stone and make a VIA/CN route. They already have a P42 and an F40 model that they could easily "modify" (repaint) to be for VIA service. As well I know I have a couple of those CN engines (The SD402W and I think I have an SD70 as well). Plus the potential for modding: The LRC, TurboTrain, RDC's, Renaissance, and Panoramas. I know someone on here is making Budds in CP livery. That would give a great jump off point for a VIA repaint.
As for commuter rail, the models of the Bombardier Bi-levels are out there and a GO train could easily be reproduced (and I also think theres a freeware WIP GO train out there right now). But outside of the GTA, theres also the AMT which operates around CN trackage INCLUDING the Deux-Montagnes route, which while very much so a niche, could offer some throwback DLC such as z-1-a engines.
As for that piece of stock thats route specific: As someone who lives close to a CN main line, I do see a lot of RoadRailers. Now, arguably that would be better suited for being included in another Norfolk Southern map (as it seems 90% of the RoadRailers I see in the trains are Triple Crown or NS). As well the route would have to take place somewhere around Toronto or Montreal for that to be rather realistic. I see more autoracks than anything since down here in Southern Ontario we have GM in Oshawa and Ingersoll, Ford in Oakville, Chrysler in Brampton and Windsor, Honda in Alliston, Toyota in Cambridge and Woodstock. And A LOT of 60' and 86' box cars. Of course as I have mentioned before we have the steel town of Hamilton which sees lots of coil cars. As well in Oakville we have the Procor factory which has tons of tank cars.
But again: 98% of that stuff is already in game. So alternatively, what about a CN LNG test engine with the tank car? Or the well car/tender? It would be different. Speaking of different what about a Heavy Duty flat with a transformer load? https://www.flickr.com/photos/93850525@N02/16391712812
Im not saying the route needs to be Southern Ontario based at all. Which is why I didnt bring up Hydro Ones schnabel car HEPX 200. I would want a line that sees freight and passenger operations. CN has ES44s so DTG could do their usual close enough repaint of the same model and brag about how its all new for this route. There is a GP9 high nose in the GP9 pack, and an SW1500 (in addition to the previously mentioned SD402W and SD70). But we would need a GP9RM, GMD1, or a slug to compliment the SW1500.
