This one suffered from a long learning curve (and RSC or Steam taking their sweet time over getting it out to the beta testers), but the next ones will be quicker. I know what I'm doing now :)

Steam is taking their sweet time with it aka Valve Time..

From the looks of it, you certainly do seem to know what you are doing!

After a few engines one would have a collection of parts (injectors, cross compounds, brake stands, throttles, reverser, pyle national equipment, boxpok drivers, ect.) that would, in my little knowledge of modeling, shorten the time required to actually physically model an engine.

Just a thought !*drool*!

I have over 60 parts for diesel, and I am still behind. *!lol!*

Exactly. There are some parts (those you've listed) that seem to be more or less standard. My headlight is fairly standard, although there are other designs, like the one that has flared numberplates and a different sun shield. The cross compound compressor is standard too. So is the generator (although in the manual I used, there were two different models, so if I were unlucky, I'd have to make the other one too). My brake stand is the one that I read is the most common one in steam locos. My reverser lever is pretty much standard (or at least for Lima locos). The injectors are indeed a fairly standard design (although the design of the handles seems to vary). The bell is standard ... I've seen the exact same design in lots of photos. Then there are the butterfly firebox doors - pretty much standard, although I've also seen variations, and of course mine doesn't have the automatic screw-driven stoker / coal crusher thing.

Mrennie,

What did you have in mind for the 844 project? (I know it's early on still, but I was wondering if you were going to dodifferent paint schemes (all black, greyhound, whitewalls)and if you were going to go for excursion service, or historical cab etc...)
(I can get you some modern day in cab pictures and close up shots if you need them!)

I'm sorry if I'm jumping the gun, but it's my favorite steam locomotive not in the game, and I want to help in any way if I can. !*salute*!

I'm open to all suggestions, and all offers! Thank you for offering to get some photos for me, I'll take you up on that! It would be great if you could take plenty of photos of the controls, close up and from different angles, including, if possible, from behind them. It's very rare to find photos that show what they look like from that angle! Even better would be to take them with a tape measure or ruler placed nearby, so that I can work out the measurements without necessarily needing to have the drawings. The loco drawings only show the positions of the major elements of the cab, but they don't provide drawings of the actual controls, so I usually have to model them purely by eye.

You can send the photos whenever you're ready. Thanks again!

They may not be the speediest because
1. The 844 is out for the winter on maintenance, and I do not live in Cheyenne
2. I usually only get to see it at least once a year (September) so the ruler request may not come for quite a while, but I think there is plenty to work on onthe outside. !!*ok*!!
