Blender to TS2014

Unread postby WVRR1964 » Sat Oct 12, 2013 12:56 pm

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section but here it goes.
As I'm getting ready to start creating content for TS2014, I've been looking for tutorials on the subject. It would seem that many of the tutorials are a bit outdated.

I'm left to wonder now, what is the latest procedure for adding content into TS2014 from Blender? And what is needed?
Right now I'm using Blender 2.66, Gimp 2 for editing and of course TS2014.

Can anybody guide me to the right information?

There's some discussion here that may be helpful:

Try CS2 instead of Gimp. There are more tutorials out there for it than the other.

As for tutorials for Blender, I would use Dom's (mentioned on another thread somewhere). You'll need to shuffle a few files around but it does work and teaches you how to export.

You will need DOM107's Blender 2.6x IA/IGS Exporter, http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=373&t=127680&st=0&sk=t&sd=a, to export your Blender models into RW compatible file types, not sure if i have the correct terminology there. Also to convert .tga textures into the RW .ace textures you need RWAce, available under the art plug-ins here - http://www.railsimulator.com/support.php.

Most tutorials while slightly out of date are still valid, maybe a few things have changed but the basics are still more or less the same.

Ok, I got the exporter, CS2 and RWace. Anything else before I venture on?

Note on the on 2d editors. Gimp is completely new to me. For the longest time I was using Paint Shop Pro 8.1 but gave it up because it seems to have a problem creating a proper .tga file. Plus, it's older then time...I think I bought it some time around 2000. I may need some more information on CS2.

CS* == Photoshop. There is a multitude of tutorials for it out there, but for the basics it is fairly intuitive. Paint Shop Pro had one disappointing problem, which was no direct way to manipulate the alpha channel, which you really need when repainting models in RW.

The installation program for CS2 is asking for a serial number to install the program...Did I miss something? Where do I get this serial number?

It's on the page where you start the download.

This maybe of some interest. I will be working through it as time permits.

Any Blender information is a good thing!

On other notes, I got the CS2 set up...I'm about ready to go to work now.

One last question...I believe there is one last thing that I need info about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Blueprint Editor2 also used? If so, Is there any information out there about the use of this tool?

You'll need to refer to the RW docs for some of that and any of the 3DC/Max/Blender tutorials for the rest. If you follow my 3DC tutorials then all the Blueprinting parts are the same no matter what 3D modeling software you use.
